Position Overview

The Director of Operations is responsible for leading and overseeing the day-to-day operational performance of the hotel portfolio, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and exceptional guest experiences across all properties. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, this role focuses on building and managing a high-performing “A” team, aligning operations with organizational goals, and driving service excellence.

Working closely with executive leadership, General Managers, and key corporate functions, the Director of Operations helps shape an attractive and competitive product for travelers. The role involves planning, directing, and coordinating operational activities; establishing and monitoring procedures and service standards; and ensuring optimal use of human, material, and financial resources within approved budgets. Ultimately, the Director of Operations ensures smooth hotel operations while maximizing guest satisfaction, team performance, and overall portfolio success.

Salary: $110K - $140k

Key Responsibilities

PEOPLE AND CULTURE

Standard: Cultivate a high-performance culture that attracts, develops, and retains exceptional talent while setting the benchmark for excellence within our region.

  • Champion and embody the Basecamp brand and culture across all operational departments.
  • Partner strategically with People & Culture on workforce planning, talent acquisition, and organizational transitions.
  • Provide oversight to departmental leadership in coaching, performance management, and employee engagement.
  • Conduct probationary and annual performance reviews of direct reports to ensure alignment with company standards and objectives.
  • Ensure consistent application and enforcement of company policies and procedures while fostering a culture of accountability and respect.
  • Oversee implementation of workplace safety and compliance programs, ensuring all operations meet or exceed health and safety standards.

REVENUE & FINANCIALS

Standard: Ensure operational and financial performance aligns with strategic goals, maintaining profitability and efficiency across the portfolio.

  • Collaborate with the General Managers and Director of Revenue & Sales to optimize room readiness, pricing strategy, and revenue generation in alignment with seasonal demands.
  • Provide direction on departmental budgets and labour management to achieve targeted financial outcomes.
  • Oversee monthly financial reporting, ensuring accuracy in projections for Net Operating Income, Rooms, and Administrative budgets.
  • Lead continuous improvement through ongoing financial review and audit response processes.

OPERATIONS

Standard: Provide strategic oversight of property operations to ensure service excellence, operational efficiency, and brand consistency.

  • Work to refine operational frameworks and service standards.
  • Set the tone for exceptional guest satisfaction and operational discipline through leadership visibility and strategic direction.
  • Uphold and advance standards of cleanliness, maintenance, and presentation across all properties.
  • Lead cross-property collaboration, aligning management teams around shared goals in service, team culture, and profitability.
  • Anticipate guest needs and direct systemic improvements in response to trends and feedback.
  • Review performance metrics and audit findings to identify areas for innovation, operational efficiency, and growth.

NEW BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Standard: Act as a brand ambassador and strategic partner, identifying and pursuing opportunities that enhance revenue, reputation, and guest experience.

  • Evaluate market trends and competitive positioning to inform strategic decision-making and business innovation.
  • Represent Basecamp within the community and broader industry networks to build partnerships, enhance visibility, and identify growth opportunities.

Requirements

  • Be familiar with the operation and programming of WebRezPro.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows – Outlook, Excel, Word.
  • A solid understanding of pricing, budgets and cost controls.
  • Strong managerial, analytical and leadership skills.
  • Travel to properties that are outside the Town of Canmore.
  • Valid Driver’s License with clean abstract for three years minimum.
  • First Aid Certification (will be training).
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, in an area related to hospitality.
  • More than five year’s experience in the hotel industry in a senior managerial role.
