Position Overview
The Control Room Operator oversees the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of cement plant processes through centralized control systems. This role monitors plant operations in real time, adjusts operating parameters, and coordinates with plant personnel to ensure production targets, quality standards, environmental compliance, and safety requirements are met. The Control Room Operator plays a critical role in protecting personnel, equipment, and the environment while supporting continuous plant operations.
What You'll Do
- Operate cement plant systems from a central control room, including crushing, raw and finish grinding, fuel systems, kiln, cooler, and material transport systems.
- Monitor plant processes and adjust computer set points to ensure safe, stable, and efficient operations.
- Observe, record, and analyze operational data including production rates, inventory levels, fuel usage, and laboratory results.
- Maintain accurate records and logs for kiln, milling, and overall plant operations.
- Document significant operational events, deviations, and process changes in accordance with plant procedures.
- Coordinate with Shift Foremen, laboratory personnel, and operations teams to ensure proper material mixes, product quality, and process control.
- Communicate and coordinate with material handling operators, mechanics, electricians, and system operators to support plant operations.
- Identify and immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or abnormal operating conditions to supervision.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized control room environment and support completion of required area audits.

What You'll Bring
Required Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of cement plant operations, including crushing, raw and finish grinding, kiln, cooler, and material handling systems.
- Ability to monitor and control complex automated systems using computer-based control interfaces.
- Ability to analyze operational data and respond effectively to changing process conditions.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across multiple plant functions.
- Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and respond appropriately to abnormal or emergency situations.
- Ability to follow operating procedures, safety rules, and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining accountability for plant performance and safety.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of one (1) year of prior experience as a cement plant control room operator or control room trainee, or equivalent experience required.
- Certification by the ATF to use Cardox tubes required.
Other Qualifications
- Ability to communicate effectively through verbal, written, and interpersonal methods.
- Ability to remain focused and attentive in a fast-paced operating environment.
- Ability to recognize abnormal operating conditions and take appropriate corrective action.
- Commitment to working safely and adhering to all company, plant, and MSHA safety policies.
