About This Position

SUMMARY:

The CTE Instructor – Artificial Intelligence serves as the teacher of record for a State-Approved Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. This role prepares high school students in the Marquette-Alger region for careers in Artificial Intelligence (AI), data science, and automation. The instructor manages curriculum delivery, work-based learning, and industry partnerships while ensuring compliance with Michigan Department of Education (MDE) standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, competency-based lessons in AI, machine learning, data analysis, and automation using project-based learning.
  • Enhance curriculum aligned with Michigan CTE standards; maintain student records, attendance, and documentation for state reporting.
  • Guide students in the ethical use of AI, emphasizing data privacy, responsible technology practices, and digital citizenship.
  • Effectively utilize Google Classroom, PowerSchool, and remote learning platforms to facilitate a seamless transition between virtual and in-person instruction.
  • Maintain an active Industry Advisory Committee (minimum of two meetings annually); coordinate guest speakers, field trips, and industry partnerships.
  • Support students in earning industry-recognized certifications and developing “soft-skills” (collaboration, critical thinking).
  • Actively recruit students across participating districts and use regional data to recommend program improvements.
  • Participate in required professional development and maintain strict confidentiality of student and Marquette-Alger RESA information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Career and Technical Education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Data Science, AI, Educational Technology, or a related field.
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or eligibility for an Annual Career Authorization (ACA) in a state-approved Information Technology, Computer Science, or related CIP area. Note: ACA eligibility requires a minimum of 4,000 hours of recent and relevant industry work experience within the last 10 years in artificial intelligence, data science, information technology, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of AI / machine learning (ML) concepts and data analytics.
  • Valid Michigan Driver’s License and reliable transportation for regional travel.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous teaching experience in STEM/IT fields.
  • Direct industry experience in software development, data science, or AI.
  • Experience with student technology competitions and project-based learning.

  • Advanced verbal, written, and presentation skills for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt instructional strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement, maintain professional tact, and treat all individuals with dignity and respect.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and work independently.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to regularly sit, stand, walk, and talk and hear. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. (e.g., computer equipment, classroom materials).
  • Close vision and the ability to adjust focus for computer-related tasks.
  • Requires occasional overnight travel for conferences.
  • Works in both standard classroom settings and virtual/home-office environments. The noise level is usually moderate.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Part-time, academic-year position; must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance, and the physical ability to do the job.

COMPENSATION: According to Marquette-Alger RESA Education Association (MEA) Bargaining Unit Scale
