The Infection Prevention & Safety Officer is responsible for overseeing safety, infection control, and emergency preparedness programs across the hospital. This role ensures compliance with regulations, supports staff education, and works closely with leadership to improve safety and infection practices.

Key Responsibilities:
- Compliance & Documentation: Ensure the hospital meets CMS CAH, state, and accreditation standards. Keep policies and records updated.
- Safety & Risk Management: Monitor and improve safety practices, investigate incidents, and ensure compliance with OSHA standards.
- Infection Control: Oversee infection prevention practices, including surveillance, staff education, and managing infection outbreaks.
- Emergency Preparedness: Coordinate emergency plans, run drills, and ensure staff are trained for emergency situations.
- Collaboration: Work with various hospital departments to identify safety risks and improve procedures.
- Knowledge of infection control, safety regulations, and emergency preparedness.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a smaller healthcare setting.
- Ability to move around the hospital and lift up to 15 lbs.
- Possible exposure to hazardous materials.
- Available for emergency response outside regular hours.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in nursing, healthcare, public health, safety, or related field required.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in healthcare safety, infection prevention, quality, or risk management preferred.
- Experience in Rural Healthcare: Experience in a Critical Access Hospital or rural healthcare environment preferred.
- Certifications: Health and safety–related certification (e.g., CIC, CHSP, CEPS, or other relevant credential) preferred.
