At RMP, we cultivate the curiosity, confidence, and character that fuel lifelong learning and meaningful leadership.

The Role of the Deputy Chief of Strategy

The Deputy Chief of Strategy serves as a strategic partner to the Chief Executive Officer and a key member of the executive leadership team at Rocky Mountain Prep, a 12-school charter management organization serving 650+ employees.

This role operates as an extension of the CEO—translating organizational priorities into clear plans, aligned execution, and measurable outcomes. The Deputy Chief leads the Strategy Division, overseeing Communications & Marketing and Strategic Projects, while driving cross-functional integration and organizational effectiveness.

This leader ensures that Rocky Mountain Prep’s highest-priority initiatives are executed with clarity, urgency, and excellence, and that internal and external messaging strengthens the organization’s brand, stakeholder trust, and impact—aligned with RMP’s mission and PEAK values (Perseverance, Excellence, Adventure, Kindness).

The Deputy Chief of Strategy at RMP will…

Executive Strategy & Chief of Staff Functions
  • Serve as a strategic advisor and operational partner to the CEO.
  • Partner with the CEO to define organizational priorities and ensure alignment across the executive team.
  • Drive clarity on goals, ownership, and progress across key initiatives.
  • Lead preparation and follow-up for executive team meetings, Board meetings, and key organizational forums.
  • Act as a thought partner on high-stakes decisions, organizational design, and emerging priorities.
  • Manage and advance CEO-led initiatives from concept through execution.
Strategic Projects

Org-wide Initiatives & Implementation

  • Own and execute the organization’s most critical, cross-functional, and time-bound initiatives.
  • Lead enterprise-level projects (e.g., new strategic priorities, system implementations, organizational redesigns).
  • Build clear project plans, success metrics, and accountability structures.
  • Ensure strong execution through regular progress monitoring, problem-solving, and course correction.
  • Step in to stabilize or accelerate high-priority workstreams as needed.
  • Capture and institutionalize lessons learned to strengthen future execution.
Communications & Marketing

Brand, PR & Stakeholder Outreach

  • Lead the organization’s communications and marketing strategy across internal and external audiences.
  • Ensure clear, consistent, and compelling messaging aligned to organizational priorities and brand.
  • Oversee brand management, storytelling, and public relations.
  • Strengthen stakeholder engagement through strategic communication with families, staff, and the broader community.
  • Lead crisis communication planning and execution in partnership with senior leadership.
  • Support executive communications, including CEO messaging and high-priority stakeholder engagement.
Cross-Functional Integration & Organizational Effectiveness
  • Drive alignment and coordination across departments to ensure effective execution of priorities.
  • Identify gaps, redundancies, and inefficiencies across teams and implement solutions.
  • Establish and maintain systems for tracking organizational goals, progress, and performance.
  • Improve internal communication, decision-making, and workflow clarity across functions.
  • Support leaders in strengthening accountability, ownership, and results within their teams.
  • Serve as a connector across divisions to ensure initiatives are integrated, not siloed.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional initiatives from early design through implementation, adoption, and sustainment.
  • Strong systems thinking, problem-solving, and organizational design skills, with the ability to identify root causes, clarify decision points, and translate ambiguity into actionable plans.
  • Strong understanding of change management principles, including stakeholder engagement, communication, implementation planning, and feedback loops.
  • Excellent internal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information, create clear executive-facing materials, and communicate across diverse teams and audiences.
  • Ability to influence, align, and coordinate leaders across functions without relying solely on formal authority.
  • Deep commitment to equity, inclusion, and serving historically marginalized communities.

Preferred:

  • Experience in education, nonprofit, public sector, consulting, or another mission-driven environment strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting senior executives or executive leadership teams through strategic planning, organizational change, or high-priority implementation efforts is preferred.

Education: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree, such as an MBA, MPP, MPA, or similar, preferred.

Years of experience: 8–12 years of experience in strategy, operations, consulting, education leadership, organizational effectiveness, project management, or a related field.
