Senior Cybersecurity Engineer

This role sits at the intersection of advanced cybersecurity engineering and mission-critical defense technology, supporting a high-impact environment focused on secure, resilient command and control systems. You will help safeguard complex software ecosystems that directly support military decision-making and operational advantage. Working across internally developed and third-party applications, you will perform deep security assessments, identify vulnerabilities, and guide remediation strategies that strengthen system integrity. The position involves close collaboration with engineering teams to embed security throughout the software lifecycle, from design through deployment. You will also contribute to cloud, container, and infrastructure security within highly regulated DoD environments. This is a highly technical and mission-driven role where your expertise directly contributes to national defense capabilities and cyber resilience.

Accountabilities

You will be responsible for ensuring the security, resilience, and compliance of mission-critical software systems through advanced cybersecurity engineering practices.

  • Conduct comprehensive security and vulnerability assessments across applications, systems, and third-party software components.
  • Perform secure code reviews, architectural security analysis, and software security evaluations aligned with defense standards.
  • Execute penetration testing and vulnerability validation using industry-standard tools and methodologies.
  • Develop and maintain threat models, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies to address evolving cybersecurity threats.
  • Ensure compliance with DoD, Air Force, and cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST, RMF, and ISO standards.
  • Provide expert guidance on secure design, cloud security, and container/Kubernetes security best practices.
  • Produce detailed technical reports outlining findings, risks, and remediation recommendations for stakeholders.
Requirements

This role requires extensive cybersecurity engineering experience in DoD or highly regulated environments, along with strong technical and analytical capabilities.

  • U.S. citizenship and active Secret clearance (required and maintainable).
  • 10+ years of cybersecurity, software engineering, or IT security experience, including 5+ years in DoD environments.
  • Strong expertise in application security (Level III), secure coding practices, and vulnerability assessment methodologies.
  • Experience with penetration testing tools, threat modeling, and risk assessment frameworks.
  • Knowledge of web development frameworks such as React, AngularJS, Django, or Spring.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments, containerization, and Kubernetes security concepts.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks including NIST CSF, RMF, ISO 27001, and DoD security standards.
  • CompTIA Security+ certification required.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to document and present complex technical findings clearly.
