Job Description

Description: About the Role

Cascadia Healthcare is hiring a hands-on Senior Data Engineer and Architect to design, build, and operate a secure and governed data platform that supports analytics, reporting, and operational decision making in a regulated healthcare environment.

This role is not advisory only and is not primarily a reporting role. This position owns real production data systems end to end, from ingestion through modeling, governance, and consumption. The role also defines standards that other engineers and analysts can follow consistently.

What You Will Own
  • End to End Data Architecture (Build and Run)
    • Design, implement, and operate production data platforms across Azure SQL, on premise SQL Server, Azure Storage, Microsoft Dataverse, and Microsoft Fabric or Power BI.
    • Own architectural tradeoffs, performance tuning, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Ingestion and Integration
    • Build and maintain ingestion pipelines using SFTP file drops, APIs, CDC or SQL Log Shipping patterns, and Azure Data Factory or equivalent orchestration tools.
    • Implement monitoring, reconciliation, alerting, and failure handling so data issues surface early and clearly.
  • Data Modeling and Semantic Layer Ownership
    • Design and evolve analytic data models using star, snowflake, Data Vault, or hybrid approaches as appropriate.
    • Own semantic models and certified datasets in Power BI and Microsoft Fabric.
    • Prevent metric drift by defining authoritative datasets and enforcing change control.
  • Data Quality, Reliability, and Incident Response
    • Implement automated data quality checks, validations, and alerts across pipelines and semantic layers.
    • Investigate data incidents using root cause analysis and implement controls to prevent recurrence.
    • Treat data incidents with the same rigor as production application incidents.
  • Governance, Security, and Compliance
    • Implement practical data governance using Microsoft Purview or equivalent tooling.
    • Define and enforce least privilege access, classification, lineage, and auditability for PHI and PII data.
    • Balance governed self-service analytics with compliance and security requirements.
  • Automation First Delivery
    • Treat data assets as production code managed in Git with peer review and repeatable deployment patterns.
    • Partner closely with DevOps to reduce manual processes and increase repeatability.
  • Standards, Documentation, and Mentorship
    • Create and publish data standards, patterns, and documentation that others actively reuse.
    • Mentor engineers and analysts on modeling, quality, security, and governance best practices.

About the Role:

As a Data Architect at Cascadia Healthcare, you will help design, implement, and manage the data platforms that power our analytics, reporting, and business operations. You’ll work closely with engineering, reporting, and security teams to ensure our data is accessible, secure, and optimized for insight and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the architecture, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise data platforms using Azure SQL, On-Prem SQL, Azure Storage, Microsoft Dataverse, and Power BI Data Warehouse.
  • Assist with data integration and ETL processes, leveraging SFTP, SQL Log Shipping, and Azure Data Factory (or similar tools).
  • Help enforce data governance, security, and compliance policies using Microsoft Purview, Defender Suite, and Azure Sentinel.
  • Participate in the design and optimization of data models, pipelines, and reporting solutions in Power BI/Fabric.
  • Manage data lifecycle, quality, and documentation for structured and unstructured data (CSV, TSV, JSON, API-based integrations).
  • Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, and reporting teams to automate data workflows and support CI/CD for data assets.
  • Monitor and tune data systems for performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Advise on best practices for data access, privacy, and regulatory compliance.
  • Stay current with new data technologies and integration patterns as the organization evolves.
Requirements: Required Qualifications
  • Five or more years of hands-on experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or data architecture.
  • Strong SQL skills with real world experience in Azure SQL and or SQL Server.
  • Proven experience building and operating production data pipelines, preferably using Azure Data Factory.
  • Hands on experience with Power BI or Microsoft Fabric semantic models.
  • Demonstrated experience handling PHI or PII in regulated environments with auditability and access controls.
  • Clear examples of owning systems end to end rather than contributing to isolated components.
