We currently seek a full time Re-entry Mentor to join our Workforce Development team. The Re-entry Mentor will mentor formerly incarcerated individuals on returning and transitioning into the community. The Re-entry Mentor will utilize individualized participants' plans to assist participants with navigating community resources including securing training, housing and employment opportunities. Mentors will also help participants develop positive behaviors by addressing their emotional, social and professional development while supporting participants in their goal of becoming employment-ready and attaining stability. This position will report out of our Brooklyn office.

Salary Range: $27.47 - $28.14 per hour

Requirements:

Essential Duties:

  • Provide mentorship to a minimum of 20 participants and is a vital part in the participants support system, as they guide them in developing strong decision-making and interpersonal skills
  • Collaborate with the Transition Coordinator to track participant progress and needs as they approach their release from jail
  • Utilize a tailored service plan for each participant to support with substance dependence issues including drugs/alcohol that can prevent progress towards developing a successful transition
  • Create referrals to community partners and liaise with referral organizations to monitor and support participant progress
  • Accompany participants to varying appointments
  • Create and manage draft notes on activities and participant progress,including internships and employment opportunities
  • Promote Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing to help participants develop optimistic thought patterns and behaviors
  • Develop and maintain community partnerships, including community-based agencies, service providers and community resources
  • Compose daily progress notes, as necessary, and submit to the Clinical Supervisor and Workforce Director
  • Attend assigned trainings
  • In-person attendance is required to collaborate with co-workers
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in Communications, Human Services or a related field preferred with at least one year of experiencr supporting participants in a social service capacity and administering programming for clients; in lieu of a degree, High school diploma or equivalent with three years of experience supporting participants in a social service capacity and administering programming for clients

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to pay attention to detail
  • Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions
  • Ability to take the initiative and drive for results
  • Excellent assessment, treatment planning and problem resolution skills
  • Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to travel locally
  • Ability to communicate with different levels of an organization and build strong relationships
