The Director of Accounting is responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of the company’s financial records. This role owns the general ledger, financial close, statutory and management reporting, tax compliance, accounting operations, and audit readiness, ensuring financial statements are reliable, auditable, and aligned with GAAP and regulatory requirements. While this role oversees revenue recognition from an accounting perspective, it does not manage claim-level billing or payer operations.
Key Responsibilities
General Ledger & Financial Close
- Own and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process including reviewing and approve journal entries, accruals, and adjustments
- Oversee balance sheet reconciliations, including cash and bank accounts, AR, AP, and Payroll and accrued liabilities
- Ensure timely, accurate close with documented support and review controls
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Produce and review GAAP compliant financial statements, including income statement, balance sheet and statement of cash flows
- Support location-, division-, and service-line-level reporting
- Deliver budget-to-actual reporting with variance explanations
- Prepare financial materials for executive leadership, the board, lenders, and investors
Accounts Payable & Operation Spend Oversight
- Oversee accounts payable operations, including vendor setup, payment processing, and controls to ensure proper accounting for inventory purchases, capitalization, and expense classification
- Govern employee expense reimbursement policies, operation budgeting and collaborate with operational leaders to ensure expense budgets are managed.
- Work with Director of Purchasing on cost related strategies to drive COGs % to its annual metric goal.
Payroll & Benefits Accounting Oversight
- Ensure accurate accruals for: PTO and other earned benefits, bonuses and commissions
- Allocate benefit costs appropriately across departments and locations
- Work with HR Director to ensure annual payroll metrics are achieved including managing hiring matrix schedule.
Compliance, Audit & Revenue Recognition
- Lead external audit and tax return coordination, including client assistance schedules and auditor communication
- Including supporting Medicare and Medicaid financial documentation and audit requests
- Design, implement, and maintain internal controls over financial reporting
- Ensure compliance with sales and use tax requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting required
- CPA required
- Minimum of 5 years' experience within management
