When you join UI Health Ventures as a Pharmacy Technician, you play a vital role in preparing sterile products with precision and care! Under the supervision of a Pharmacist, you’ll ensure compliance with aseptic techniques, maintain pharmacy operations, and contribute to quality assurance activities. This position requires a high school diploma, Iowa Pharmacy Technician certification (or eligibility), and at least one year of related experience. Ideal candidates have experience in home infusion and sterile compounding.

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of a Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician prepares sterile products in alignment with aseptic technique principles and prescriber orders. This role ensures compliance with company policies and procedures while performing tasks related to maintaining an efficient and organized pharmacy operation.

Position Responsibilities

  • Performs activities associated with inventory maintenance.
  • Completes quality assurance activities and quality control records for documentation of appropriate sterile compounding processes.
  • Maintains cleanliness of MIC and other equipment and the pharmacy in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Generates and/or maintains appropriate records related to medication distribution and dispensing and disposal.
  • Utilizes various equipment including Baxa pump, label printers, laser report printers, and computer keyboards/terminals.
  • Utilizes aseptic technique in MIC, biological safety cabinet to prepare sterile products, including cytotoxic drugs, in single doses.
  • Utilizes automated compounding equipment to compound total parenteral nutrition solutions.
  • Communicates with other health care personnel.
  • Assists pharmacists with the orientation and on-the-job training of all new technicians and pharmacists.
  • Maintains area orderliness and cleanliness.
  • Administrative technician duties as assigned by the Pharmacist in Charge.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma including a general mathematics course, or equivalent.
  • Current Iowa Pharmacy Technician Certificate of Registration.
  • A minimum of one-year related experience.
  • Current Pharmacy Technician Certification or eligibility. All pharmacy technicians must be certified within one year of employment. If certification is not achieved by the end of one year of employment, individuals must be terminated, per the Iowa Board of Pharmacy.
  • One year experience as a Pharmacy Technician or one year of experience in a position directly related to the natural sciences, or one-year post-high school education in the natural sciences or related area.

Desired Qualifications and Experience

  • Home Infusion pharmacy experience and clinical pharmacy experience.
  • Job-related experience with sterile compounding.

Physical Requirements

These physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Prolonged periods of standing, including bending, squatting, and reaching above/below shoulder level to access shelves.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs. (2) times in a row from the floor to counter height.
  • Push/pull 80 lbs. on a (4) wheeled cart.

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Successful completion of reference checks.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

Expected Work Hours and Location

Generally, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with occasional nights and weekends. Days and hours are subject to change with notice.
