About This Position
Work with cutting edge AI technology, making the world a safer and more secure place. DroneShield (ASX:DRO) offers an opportunity to solve some of world’s most challenging technical problems in the rapidly growing counter-drone sector.
Our customers operate in some of the most challenging and high-stakes environments in the world, including military organisations, government agencies, airports, critical infrastructure operators, and law enforcement. Protecting airspace in these settings requires technology that performs under pressure and teams that understand what’s at stake. At DroneShield, employees work at the leading edge of counter-drone innovation, helping to address real-world security challenges as drone threats continue to evolve globally.
With one of the largest listed defence company market capitalisations in Australia, now part of the ASX200 index, DroneShield is experiencing a period of hypergrowth. Revenue has surged from A$57 million in 2024 to over A$217 million in 2025, representing growth of more than 400% year-on-year, with record profitability and cashflow. The total addressable global market for counter-drone is assessed at approximately $100 billion, and is currently at the nascent stage with much of the growth still to come, with DroneShield well positioned as a global market leader, and the only public listed pure-play business in this sector.
The company has grown from 11 employees in 2017 to over 450 staff globally today, and is on track to reach around 550 by the end of 2026. This expansion includes investment of over A$50 million annually in R&D, a global pipeline exceeding A$2.5 billion, and continuous scaling of production capacity to meet accelerating demand.
The role is based at DroneShield’s central Sydney headquarters. Overseas on-the-ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Netherlands, Denmark, Mexico and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries worldwide.
About the role
DroneShield is seeking a hands-on QA Software Engineer to support quality assurance for the Access Portal – our global, customer-facing web platform used for device management, configuration, software distribution, and operational visibility.
This role focuses on validating modern web applications, APIs, backend services, and secure identity-driven workflows. You will work across the full stack of the platform, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security across user interfaces, automation pipelines, and distributed services.
A key focus of this role is workload automation - embedding automated testing into CI/CD pipelines, improving regression coverage, validating release workflows, and reducing manual effort through intelligent test design. You will help scale quality practices in line with rapid product growth, ensuring repeatable, reliable releases.
You will collaborate closely with Full Stack Engineers, Backend/API Engineers, DevOps, and Product to support high-quality, frequent releases in a fast-paced environment.
The ideal candidate is pragmatic, automation-minded, and comfortable taking ownership of testing activities end-to-end. You should be confident designing automated test coverage, identifying risk areas early, and contributing to a culture where quality is built into the development lifecycle rather than inspected at the end.
Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations
- Design, execute, and maintain manual and automated tests across web UI, APIs, and backend services.
- Validate authentication, authorisation, and role-based access control workflows.
- Plan and execute functional, integration, regression, and release test cycles.
- Contribute to and extend automated test frameworks for frontend and API testing.
- Support CI/CD-driven testing and ensure quality gates are embedded into pipelines.
- Perform exploratory testing on new features and customer-facing workflows.
- Create and maintain test cases, test data, and documentation in test management tools.
- Identify, log, and track defects, supporting engineers with reproducible steps and root cause analysis.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to improve observability, testability, and overall platform quality.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of QA standards, tooling, and processes.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- 3–6 years of experience as a QA or Software Test Engineer in web or SaaS environments.
- Strong understanding of web application testing, API testing, and backend validation.
- Experience with automation tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Pytest, or similar.
- Experience testing RESTful APIs using tools such as Postman, Insomnia, or automated frameworks.
- Programming or scripting experience in Python, JavaScript, or Go.
- Familiarity with CI/CD environments and containerised applications (e.g. Docker).
- Experience working with test management tools such as Xray, Zephyr, or QMetry.
- Strong analytical, debugging, and communication skills.
- Ability to plan and execute testing tasks independently while collaborating across teams.
- Experience testing secure or compliance-driven systems is desirable
- Exposure to identity management, RBAC, or multi-tenant platforms is desirable
- Experience with performance or load testing tools such as K6 is desirable
- Familiarity with cloud-native architectures (AWS) is desirable
- Exposure to audit logging, event-driven systems, or distributed architectures is desirable
