POSITION SUMMARYThe Township of Edison is accepting applications for the position of Municipal Prosecutor. The Municipal Prosecutor represents the State of New Jersey and the Township in prosecuting matters within the jurisdiction of the Edison Municipal Court, including municipal ordinance violations, traffic offenses, and disorderly persons offenses.The Municipal Prosecutor is appointed by the Township Council and operates under the functional supervision of the Municipal Judge and the administrative supervision of the Director of Law.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe Municipal Prosecutor shall:• Prosecute cases before the Edison Municipal Court• Review police reports, complaints, and charging documents• Appear in court for hearings, trials, and sentencing• Conduct plea negotiations consistent with legal and ethical standards• Prepare and file motions, briefs, and legal memoranda• Present evidence and examine witnesses• Advise law enforcement and court personnel on prosecutorial matters as appropriate• Maintain compliance with the New Jersey Rules of Professional Conduct and Court RulesMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSApplicants must:• Be an attorney licensed to practice law in the State of New Jersey• Be in good standing with the Supreme Court of New Jersey• Possess knowledge of New Jersey criminal and municipal law• Demonstrate sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism• Have no conflicts of interest that would impair prosecutorial independencePrior experience as a municipal or criminal prosecutor is preferred.COMPENSATIONCompensation shall be established by Township ordinance or resolution and paid pursuant to municipal policy.LEGAL NOTICEThis posting reflects the Township's intent to fill a court-appointed position.
