POSITION PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
This is a full-time, on-site role located in Fort Lauderdale, FL, for a Director of Finance & Budget. The Director of Finance & Budget will oversee financial planning, manage financial reporting processes, and ensure operational compliance with relevant regulations. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing financial statements, leading financial analyses, creating and managing budgets, handling cash flow management, and monitoring revenue and expense trends. The role will also involve identifying opportunities for process optimization while supporting strategic decision-making for the organization.
Requirements:QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Strong financial management skills, including expertise in Financial Planning and Finance practices
- Proficiency in preparing and analyzing Financial Statements and Financial Reporting
- Excellent Analytical Skills and problem-solving capabilities
- Experience in budget management and cash flow analysis
- Exceptional organizational and leadership abilities to oversee financial teams and operations
- Proficiency in financial software and tools; advanced Excel skills are preferred
- Knowledge of public finance laws and regulations is highly valued
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; a CPA or CFA designation is preferred
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as the principal financial advisor to the Tax Collector, providing data-driven guidance on fiscal policy, long-range financial planning, and statutory obligations unique to a constitutional office.
- Lead development and submission of annual operating and capital budgets in alignment with Florida statutes, county requirements, and Department of Revenue guidelines.
- Oversee revenue forecasting tied to tax collection cycles, tag and title volumes, and seasonal fluctuations; proactively assess financial risk and mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with all state, county, and audit requirements, including coordination with external auditors, Inspector General inquiries, and public records requests related to financial matters.
- Develop internal financial controls and governance frameworks to safeguard public funds and ensure transparency, accountability, and audit readiness.
- Partner closely with Operations, IT, HR, and Communications to evaluate financial impacts of new initiatives, technology investments, office expansions, and service enhancements.
- Prepare executive-level financial briefings, dashboards, and reports for the Tax Collector, senior leadership, and governing bodies as required.
- Lead and mentor finance staff, fostering a culture of accuracy, integrity, continuous improvement, and public stewardship.
WORK CONDITIONS:
- Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
