Job Description: Rehoboth Beach Country Club is seeking an Assistant Tennis Professional to work the upcoming season (May through October). This position is ideal for a motivated, dynamic, and high-energy individual who thrives both on the court and in a retail environment. The Assistant Tennis Professional will play a key role in maintaining and growing the Club’s racquets program by delivering high-quality instruction, providing exceptional member service, and supporting pro shop operations. The ideal candidate will have collegiate playing experience, strong communication skills, and a passion for working with players of all ages and skill levels, including juniors and adult women’s programs.
Essential Functions
- Provide private lessons, clinics, camps, and group instruction to members of all ages and skill levels.
- Assist in the planning and execution of junior and adult tennis programming.
- Collaborate with the Racquets Director to develop appropriate lesson plans and instructional strategies.
- Work a minimum of 12 hours per week in the Pro Shop, including inventory management and sales using Jonas.
- Provide exceptional member service by assisting with racquet selection, stringing, shoes, apparel, and general racquets needs.
- String racquets and maintain stringing equipment.
- Promote tennis programming, events, and participation within the membership.
- Assist with racquets social events, tournaments, and outings.
- Support daily court operations including maintenance such as sweeping courts, managing coolers, and trash removal.
- Maintain a visible, engaging, and enthusiastic presence with members both on and off the court.
- Ensure all activities are conducted in a safe and professional manner.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Racquets Director.
Expectations
- Arrive at least 10 minutes prior to all scheduled lessons, clinics, and programs.
- Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to Club dress standards.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm and engagement with members at all times.
- Display a willingness to work with players of all ages and skill levels.
- Maintain a flexible schedule, including availability on weekends and holidays.
- Show initiative in assisting with pro shop operations and court maintenance.
- Exhibit a strong desire to learn, grow, and develop as a teaching professional.
Environmental Demands
- Work is primarily performed outdoors on tennis courts.
- Exposure to extreme heat, humidity, and occasional cold or inclement weather.
Intellectual Demands
- Collegiate playing experience preferred.
- NTRP rating of 4.5 or higher required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage and instruct players of varying ages and abilities.
- Knowledge of tennis fundamentals, drills, and match play strategies.
- Prior teaching or coaching experience preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively and take direction from leadership.
- Dependability, punctuality, and professionalism.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
Physical Demands
- Extended periods of standing, walking, and on-court activity (5–8+ hours daily).
- Frequent running, bending, twisting, and reaching.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. occasionally.
