About This Position

Description:

Position Summary

The Calibration Technician is responsible for the precision bonding, calibration, and glassing of wire-wound temperature sensor elements, representing the second phase in the manufacturing of custom, high-accuracy temperature sensors for industrial and laboratory applications. Core duties include using micro acetylene torches under a microscope to bond wires finer than a human hair, operating a resistance comparator to verify and calibrate sensor accuracy, and performing the high-temperature glassing process to coat ceramic tube elements. The components completed in this role are essential to ensuring that Temperature Specialists' custom-engineered wire-wound sensors meet the exacting accuracy standards required across a wide range of industries and applications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

· Operate a micro acetylene torch under a microscope to precisely bond wires smaller than a human hair onto wire-wound ceramic sensor elements, requiring exceptional steadiness and attention to detail

· Use a resistance comparator to calibrate finished temperature sensors, verifying accuracy against specification and ensuring each sensor meets required performance standards

· Perform the glassing process using a high-temperature furnace to coat ceramic tube elements, following the same procedures established in the winding phase of production

· Read and interpret blueprints and work orders to ensure all calibration and bonding work is completed to specification; inspect and measure finished sensors for quality and accuracy

· Document calibration results and log completed work orders to support accurate recordkeeping, traceability, and scheduling across the manufacturing process

· Work collaboratively within a small calibration department team to meet daily production goals and communicate with other departments on assembly schedules and custom sensor requirements

· Report directly to the Production Manager and serve as a critical contributor to the second stage of the temperature sensor manufacturing process, ensuring calibrated elements are ready for downstream assembly

· Support the training and onboarding of new team members as needed, and perform routine maintenance and cleaning of calibration department equipment to ensure consistent and accurate operation

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Demonstrated fine motor skills and exceptional manual dexterity required for performing highly precise work with components smaller than a human hair. Ability to perform sustained, close detail work under a microscope. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and consistency in a quality-critical manufacturing environment. Ability to read and interpret work prints and blueprints. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and retain training on specialized equipment and processes. A collaborative attitude and willingness to work closely within a small team environment. Prior manufacturing, calibration, or laboratory experience is a plus but not required — all technical skills are developed through comprehensive in-house training.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions.
