About This Position
POSITION PURPOSELANGUAGE SKILLSPOSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES / JOB DUTIESCOMPLIANCE / PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
To support both the clinical and administrative functions of the clinic by coordinating patient flow, obtaining and documenting patient information, assisting providers with medical procedures, and ensuring accurate registration, scheduling, and a positive patient experience in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- High School Graduate or GED equivalent from an accredited program required.
- One (1) year of outpatient clinic, medical assistant, or patient registration experience preferred.
- American Heart Association BLS certification required.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred.
- Education or training in basic medical terminology required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of computers and proficiency with electronic health record systems required.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to multitask in a high-volume environment.
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to speak a relevant second language preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with patients, families, medical staff, and hospital staff.
- Ability to identify and implement appropriate patient communication strategies, including use of certified interpreters when needed.
- Extensive walking and standing.
- Lifting, pushing, pulling, and reaching up to forty (40) pounds.
- Moderate periods of sitting.
- Frequent use of precise motor skills and prolonged computer use.
- Vision requirements include near and far acuity and color vision.
- Register patients and gather, verify, and document accurate demographic, financial, and health information.
- Obtain required patient signatures, insurance authorizations, and collect co-pays and deductibles.
- Schedule appointments, referrals, procedures, and follow-up visits.
- Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers with medical procedures.
- Obtain and document vital signs, patient history, and reason for visit in the EMR.
- Perform CLIA-waived testing, venipuncture, and specimen handling as ordered.
- Perform EKGs as needed
- Maintain exam rooms, equipment, supplies, and infection control standards.
- Accurately transcribe and document provider orders and patient care activities.
- Handle incoming calls and coordinate patient communication.
- Provide patient education and support within scope of practice.
- Support compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, CMS, Joint Commission, and hospital policies.
- Participate in quality improvement, safety initiatives, and customer service programs.
- Assist with clinic opening and closing procedures and orientation of new staff.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support clinic operations.
- Support the hospital Mission Statement, Compliance Program, and Ethical Standards of Conduct.
- Maintain HIPAA and HITECH awareness and compliance.
- Attend required training, in-services, and continuing education.
- Maintain required certifications and competencies.
