Location: Newport News, VA
Job Type: Contract to Hire
Shifts: 1st & 3rd Shift (flexibility required)
Pay: Up to $40.00/hour (based on directly related experience)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced CNC Punch Press Specialist to support sheet metal fabrication operations. This role involves independently setting up, programming, and operating turret punch equipment to produce high-precision components. The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain consistent production quality in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities- Set up and operate CNC turret punch equipment, including program loading, tooling selection, and material preparation
- Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot tooling such as punches, dies, and forming tools
- Identify and resolve issues related to tool wear, feeding errors, and material inconsistencies
- Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments to ensure compliance with specifications
- Interpret technical drawings and optimize punch layouts for efficiency and accuracy
- Maintain detailed production and quality records
- Work independently while collaborating with engineering, fabrication, and supervisory teams
- Organize workflow to maintain productivity, efficiency, and high-quality output
- Minimum of 5 years of CNC turret punch or related fabrication experience
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Knowledge of materials such as galvanized steel, aluminum, and stainless steel
- Proficiency with precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers)
- Solid mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in mathematics, including geometry and trigonometry
- Ability to estimate project timelines accurately
- Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform tasks involving standing, walking, bending, and twisting for extended periods
- Willingness to work in varying temperature conditions
- Experience editing G-code
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software
- Forklift operation experience
- Project coordination or management experience
