About This Position
Westerner Park is seeking a hardworking and dependable Agricultural Events Assistant (Canada Summer Jobs) to join our Event Delivery team. This temporary, full-time role provides hands-on support for agricultural events, ensuring facilities and grounds are safe, clean, and event-ready for guests, participants, and livestock.
As part of the Event Delivery team, the Agricultural Events Assistant plays a key role in supporting the setup, operation, and teardown of agricultural events, contributing to a positive and professional experience for all involved.
Position OverviewReporting to the Assistant Manager, Event Delivery, the Agricultural Events Assistant supports the day-to-day operations of agricultural event spaces, including the AgVenture Pavilion. This role requires physical stamina, adaptability, and the ability to work safely around livestock and equipment in a fast-paced environment.
Key Areas of Responsibility1. Event Setup, Operations & Teardown
- Assist with the setup, daily operations, and teardown of the AgVenture Pavilion.
- Support opening procedures to ensure spaces are clean, organized, and guest-ready.
- Assist with closing procedures, ensuring areas are cleared, secured, and prepared for the next day.
2. Facility & Grounds Maintenance
- Clean and maintain agricultural event spaces, including stalls, show rings, and parking areas.
- Clear manure and animal waste from designated areas.
- Conduct final checks to ensure stalls and facilities are clean, sanitized, and event-ready.
- Empty waste bins and transport materials to appropriate disposal locations.
3. Equipment Operation & Material Handling
- Operate tractors and related equipment to support event setup and teardown.
- Handle and move event materials such as steel panels, animal stalls, shovels, rakes, and jump equipment.
4. Volunteer & On-Site Support
- Assist with volunteer coordination, including confirming attendance and guiding volunteers to assigned roles.
- Provide general on-site support to ensure smooth daily operations, escalating issues as needed.
5. Safety & Team Collaboration
- Work safely in close proximity to livestock and equipment.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient and safe event delivery.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support operational success.
- Clean, safe, and well-maintained agricultural event spaces.
- Efficient setup and teardown of event areas.
- Properly sanitized and prepared stalls and facilities.
- Safe handling of equipment and materials.
- Experience in an agricultural setting, including working around livestock and operating equipment (preferred).
- Landscaping or groundskeeping experience (an asset).
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
- Strong work ethic and ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 75 lbs.
- Positive, team-oriented attitude with strong communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Eligibility for the Canada Summer Jobs Program.
