Position Summary
The Crane and Rigging Manager oversees all crane and rigging operations within the shipyard, ensuring safe and efficient execution to meet critical lift requirements and crane and hoist operations. This role is accountable for meeting safety, quality, schedule, and cost objectives while supporting production through effective planning, coordination, and resource alignment. The Crane and Rigging Manager provides direct leadership of 6 employees and oversight of up to 60 crew employees.
Domestic and international travel may be required.
Essential Functions
- Provide leadership, planning, and technical oversight for crane and rigging teams, ensuring alignment with production schedules, regulatory requirements, and operational objectives.
- Develop and approve lift plans, rigging configurations, and equipment selection to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Inspect work sites for optimal location for safe crane and/or rigging equipment setup, ensuring the equipment is in optimal condition/positioned to perform the lift safely and within load capacity
- Monitor and enforce safe crane and rigging practices, and preventative maintenance (lubrication), including participation in Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and safety programs
- Support troubleshooting and resolution of operational issues, including equipment malfunctions and complex lift challenges, documenting daily inspections, maintenance logs, and operational records for regulatory compliance
- Measure performance against the budget, conducting budget, labor, and schedule analysis
- Other duties as assigned
- Must be able to read and interpret job specifications, engineering drawings, and load charts, and have the ability to interpret hand and voice signals
- Must have a working knowledge of the NAVSEA Standard Items and Code of Federal regulations (CFR’s) or Certified Operator (CO)
- Must be highly proficient in rigging principles, such as crane assembly, disassembly, lifting practices, load limits, center of gravity, and troubleshooting.
- Must have strong Microsoft Office Suite computer skills
- Must have strong organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills
- Must have ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor
- Must adhere to ISO and OSHA policies established by FMSNA and have high values for safety awareness

Education and Experience
- Technical or Associate degree, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- 2 years of crane and rigging experience required, shipyard or ship repair environment preferred
- Have or be willing to obtain NCCCO, NCCER, or other recognized OSHA-recognized qualifications, and DBIDS access

Physical Demands and Work Environment
While performing job duties, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand or walk; use hands and arms to grasp, handle, manipulate, or feel objects and controls; stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch; and speak or hear. The employee may lift and/or move up to 35lbs regularly and up to 50lbs occasionally. Work is performed both inside and outside in varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, wet, humid, dry, and arid climates. Frequent use of PPE is required to minimize noise exposure, moving machinery, weather elements, and other potential hazards, including the risk of injury.
