About the Role:

We are seeking a versatile and proactive Data Scientist to join our Data & Intelligence team. Reporting to the Director, Business Intelligence, this is a hybrid role that blends data science, data engineering, and automation. Ideal candidates will be comfortable wearing multiple hats in a small, agile team environment and working both independently on deliverables and in collaboration with Data Opeartions & Business Intellignece teams.

This role will have the opportunity build and scale advanced analytics capabilities from the ground up as the organization grows. The successful candidate will help establish and grow the data science capabilities within the organization, laying the foundation for and be able to execute advanced analytics projects and deliverables.

Key Responsibilities:

Advanced Analytics

  • Design and implement statistical models and predictive analytics solutions to support business processes.
  • Contribute to building and deployment of net-new advanced analytics capabilities within the organization.
  • Identify new opportunities for advance analytic or algorithmic insights to meaningfuly influence business operations & outcomes.

Business Problem Solving

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business challenges and independently design data-driven solutions.
  • Translate business requirements into actionable insights and technical deliverables.

Data Engineering & Automation

  • Develop standalone Python programs to wrangle, clean, and process data from various sources.
  • Build Python scripts to automate repetitive tasks and improve team efficiency.

Visualization & Collaboration

  • Work closely with Power BI developers to ensure seamless integration of data pipelines and visualizations.
  • Create prototypes and support dashboard development with a strong understanding of visualization best practices.
  • Present findings and solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in a data-focused role (e.g., Data Scientist, Data Analyst, Data Engineer) with at least 3 years building advanced analytics as a Data Scientist.
  • Experience: 5+ years in a healthcare experience with demonstrated understanding of healthcare datasets that contribute to modeling development in a VBC or other healthcare environment (enrollment, claims – including medical coding standards, gaps-in-care/HEDIS, HER, ADT, etc.) and strong demonstrated understanding of healthcare regulations and ethics (HIPAA, GDPR, Privacy & Cosent Standards, Bias Monitoring, etc.)
  • Data Science & Machine Learning: Advanced knowledge of statistics and machine learning concepts (e.g., regression, classification, clustering). Demonstrated experience creating and facilitating the adoption of predictive modeling capabilities in a healthcare ecosystem. Examples of previous projects that the incumbent may have delivered: propensity to engage, propensity to churn, risking risk assessment, next best action, etc. Strong track record of deploying models/tools that improved patient care, reduced costs and/or increased efficiency in a healthcare context.
  • Data Science & Machine Learning: Demonstrated experience with validation of predictive models with an emphasis on interpretability and fairness in clinical contexts and ability to assist stakeholders with interpretation of validation & results
  • Programming & Engineering: Proficient Python developer with strong engineering discipline (e.g., Git, unit testing, CI/CD); experience building high-quality analytical code.
  • Visualization: Familiarity with Power BI or similar visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker), and ability to collaborate with dashboard developers.
  • Communication: Ability to explain complex ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences; experience with data storytelling and visualization is a plus.
  • Collaboration: Demonstrated experience collaborating with business stakeholders to understand business challenges and/or objectives and design & deliver solutions (including technical design & roll-out support) in conjunction with stakeholders – success in this role will not just be statistical model delivery but additionally collaboration with a technical & non-technical team of collaborative stakeholders working towards producing capability upgrades to EQH’s care model

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with AWS data lakehouse architecture, including advanced SQL & Python experience (or similar), strong development experience (e.g. Git, unit testing, CI/CD, etc.)
  • Expert knowledge of statistics & machine learning capabilities (e.g. regression, classification, clustering, etc.)
  • AI experience/incorporation into models a plus.
