About This Position
Under direction, performs independent office and field municipal engineering work, prepares site plans, landscape plans, cost estimates, and specifications for park and recreational facilities, public beautification projects, and public buildings, and supervises the installation and construction of such projects; does related work as required.Note: The definition and examples of work for this title are for illustrative purposes only. A particular position using this title may not perform all duties listed in this job specification. Conversely, all duties performed on the job may not be listed. Examples of Work:Under priority direction, performs responsible field and office engineering work involved in the investigation, design, maintenance, construction and inspection of sanitary sewer systems, pump stations, highways, roads, streets, bridges, culverts, and other varied municipal systems.Prepares grading plans and cross sections to be used in developing park and recreational facilities.Prepares and processes applications for federal and state financial grant programs relating to public beautification programs.Prepares cost estimates and supervises the installation of landscaping for areas included in the Green Acres Open Space and Urban Beautification programs.Designs and draws plans to be used in planting trees and shrubbery in parks and recreation areas along with accompanying plant lists, sizes, specifications, and cost estimates.Designs architectural details for various projects.Reviews site designs and proposals in urban renewal project areas.Prepares and reviews designs for the beautification of roadway areas.Reviews landscape plans for garden apartments, industrial plants, and commercial buildings and makes recommendations related to these plans.Acts as technical advisor to government agencies on matters pertaining to landscape maintenance and tree care.Prepares pencil or crayon sketches.Prepares clear, sound, accurate, and informative reports of landscape matters containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.Maintains essential records and files.Requirements:Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Construction or mechanical Engineering.Possession of an active New Jersey Professional Engineer (P.E.) License issued by the new jersey Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.Three (3) years experience as a P.E. in Municipal, Transportation or Highway Engineering.Knowledge and Abilities:Knowledge of the principles of civil engineering practice and engineering computations.Knowledge of procedures used to plan, design and bid civil engineering projects.Knowledge of the form, content and preparation of construction plans, specifications and techniques used in preparing detailed maps and of approved inspection techniques.Knowledge of techniques used to draft and prepare maps, charges and bid documents.Ability to prepare detailed engineering plans and drawings with use of CAD.Ability to prepare estimates of the cost of new construction or installations and to check drawings submitted by contractors for these projects.Ability to care for and maintain instruments, materials, and supplies.Ability to keep detailed records of all construction projects.Ability to prepare clear, sound, accurate, and informative reports of projects containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.Ability to maintain essential records and files.Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
