Position Summary:
The University of New Mexico, Schoolof Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is seeking adynamic, self-motivated Accounting & Fiscal Services Supervisor to lead its accounting team.This position plays a critical role in overseeing the department's financialoperations and supporting leadership through accurate analysis, reporting, andstrategic financial guidance.
The successful candidate will bringdemonstrated experience managing federal, state, and non-profit contracts andgrants, along with strong supervisory and team leadership skills. The Accounting & FiscalServices Supervisor is responsible for overseeing departmental financials,analyzing trends, and reporting to department leadership. This role alsosupervises and trains staff, manages day-to-day accounting operations, andensures compliance with internal controls and funding requirements.
Key responsibilities includeresearching and resolving budget, procurement, billing, and expenditure issues;maintaining effective internal controls; and participating in a variety offinancial and budget meetings with department leaders, sponsors, and externalstakeholders.
The ideal candidate is a proactiveself-starter who is highly organized, responsive, and able to manage competingpriorities in a complex environment. Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, andwritten communication skills are essential, as is the ability to workindependently while overseeing the work of others.
The Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciencesis a large and complex department with:
* 200+ employees
* $33 million annual budget
* 350+ accounts
The finance team supports salariesand budgets while enabling the department's mission to provide innovativeeducation for residents, medical students, and health professionals; deliverhigh-quality clinical mental health care to the citizens of New Mexico; andconduct outstanding multidisciplinary research addressing critical healthchallenges. - UNM accounting experience
- Supervisory experience, including staff training and development
- Demonstrated team-building skills as both a team member and team leader
- Expertise in creating ad hoc financial reports for management and leadership
- Proven ability to communicate financial information and compliance requirements to staff, leadership, physicians, and other professionals
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to build structure and processes to manage a robust organization
