Overview
Intelligent Waves is seeking a Junior Red Team Operator to support U.S. Navy Cyber Operational Test and Evaluation missions. This role supports cyber test planning, preparation, and execution across acquisition systems and operational environments, working under the direction of intermediate and senior red team personnel.
The Junior Red Team Operator develops proficiency in Navy cyber test and evaluation concepts of operations, standard operating procedures, and applicable policies and guidance. The role supports the development and execution of penetration testing activities and red team tactics, techniques, and procedures, as well as research and submission of operational requirements for approved cyber tools and capabilities.
Responsibilities include participating in cyber test planning and preparation activities such as open-source research, system and documentation review, and test asset preparation. During execution phases, the operator supports Cooperative Vulnerability Penetration Assessments, Adversarial Assessments, and Cyber Tabletop Exercises using ethical hacking techniques. Post-execution support includes data verification, documentation of test results and lessons learned, and participation in required OT&E meetings and training activities.

Responsibilities
Cyber Test and Evaluation Operations
Review, understand, and apply cyber Test and Evaluation concepts of operations, SOPs, policies, and guidance to ensure compliant and effective execution of Operational Test and Evaluation activities.
Participate in required OT&E meetings and coordination events.
Support cyber test planning and preparation activities, including open-source research, system-under-test documentation review, attack surface and threat vector identification, feasibility reviews, test plan development, checkpoint meetings, site visits, and preparation of red team test assets.
Execute cyber test events such as Cooperative Vulnerability Penetration Assessments, adversarial assessments, and cyber tabletop exercises in support of Operational Testing, Developmental Testing, and risk reduction activities.
Operate independently with guidance from intermediate or advanced operators, ensuring all testing is conducted safely and in accordance with approved test plans, governing policies, and cyber deconfliction procedures.
Research, justify, and submit operational requirements for cyber tools and capabilities in accordance with established acquisition and approval processes.
Employ approved commercial and open-source cyber assessment tools, including Core Impact, Nmap, Burp Suite, Metasploit, and Nessus, to identify and exploit vulnerabilities and misconfigurations across operating systems, protocols, and network security services.
Support the development and execution of penetration testing and red team tactics, techniques, and procedures.
Validate test data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and operational relevance, and support post-test analysis, risk and deficiency documentation, and lessons learned.
Participate in professional development and collaboration activities, including capture-the-flag events, cyber off-sites, red team huddles, and technical exchange forums.
Qualifications
- Active TS/SCI security clearance
- Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) or an equivalent DoD-recognized offensive security certification (e.g., CompTIA PenTest+, GIAC GSEC)
1+ year of hands-on experience performing penetration testing, red teaming, and/or exploit development
Proficient in at least two operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and/or Unix variants
Hands-on experience with offensive security tools such as Metasploit, Cobalt Strike, and/or Core Impact
Ability to operate independently while conducting penetration testing or red team operations under the guidance of a senior or mid-level red team operator to achieve assigned test objectives
Demonstrated ability to independently produce professional red team reports documenting findings, methodology, and impact.
