Summary:
The Ponca Tribe of Nebraska is a federally recognized Tribe with its ancestral homeland located in Niobrara, NE. The Tribe does not have a reservation in the classic definition; rather, the Ponca Restoration Act defined its jurisdiction as a ‘Service Delivery Area’ comprised of 15 counties throughout parts of Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota. Within its Service Delivery Area, the Tribe offers a broad range of health, social, educational, and cultural services.
This is an Internship for an individual who is seeking experience to coincide with an interest in Environmental Protection while starting a post-secondary education program. The intern will assist with the daily operation of the Environmental Protection Department. Time commitment to not exceed 600 hours per year.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Deliver administrative services to the department as is appropriate
- Assist with routine office-related functions including, but not limited to: processing various accounting functions, reviewing and reconciling accounting work papers, answering the phone, taking/relaying messages, copying, faxing, filing, logging all incoming and outgoing mail, scheduling meetings, typing letters (using word processor), reports, etc.
- Attend staff and other meetings as required.
- Travel as needed to fulfill objectives of projects.
- Maintains complete confidentiality and honors the Privacy Act and HIPAA.
- Familiarize self with policy and procedure of the Department and the Ponca Tribe as an employee.
- Assist in policy creation/ implementation
- Assist in water sampling, data gathering, and review and analyze results.
- Other duties as assigned.
Relationships and Authority:
This position has no supervisory duties.
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
This position is located in professional office environment and out in the field.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
- Enrolled in post-secondary program.
- Ability to handle stress, meet deadlines and work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work on and organize multiple projects.
- Possess or develop computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint programs.
- Make effort to develop written and oral communication skills.
- Must have valid driver’s license and be insurable.
- Must successfully pass drug and alcohol testing, education, character, and criminal background checks.
- Able and willing to travel.
