The Mechanical Technician in the Equipment Department is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and installing mechanical systems, machinery, and components critical to the copper tubing production process. This role ensures that extrusion presses, draw benches, annealing ovens, coilers, and material handling systems operate safely and efficiently. The technician will diagnose mechanical problems, perform preventative maintenance, and support continuous equipment uptime to minimize production interruptions.
Key Responsibilities:Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical systems, including gears, bearings, drive shafts, rollers, and hydraulics.
Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks on production and support equipment.
Assist with the installation, alignment, and testing of new machinery or equipment upgrades.
Read and interpret mechanical blueprints, technical manuals, and schematic diagrams.
Respond to machine breakdowns quickly to minimize downtime.
Maintain maintenance logs and records of work completed.
Collaborate with production staff to schedule repairs and preventive tasks without disrupting operations.
Fabricate and modify machine parts using welding, grinding, or machining tools as needed.
Follow all safety policies and procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), PPE, and confined space guidelines.
Support continuous improvement by suggesting process or mechanical upgrades.
High school diploma or GED required; technical school or associate degree in Mechanical Maintenance or Industrial Technology preferred.
3+ years of hands-on mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Experience with heavy machinery such as presses, furnaces, and coiling systems; experience with copper or metals preferred.
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic machining.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and equipment manuals.
Familiar with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
Basic understanding of safety protocols and industrial regulations.
Heavy industrial manufacturing setting with frequent exposure to noise, heat, dust, and machinery.
Physically demanding role: frequent standing, climbing, bending, lifting (up to 75 lbs), and working in tight or elevated spaces.
Must be available for overtime, emergency repairs, and weekend shifts as needed.
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
