JD Audio & Video Design Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Commercial Lighting Controls Engineer to lead the design, programming, commissioning, and execution of cutting-edge lighting control systems across premier commercial environments. This position is a hybrid of technical engineering and field commissioningperfect for someone who thrives on creating intelligent lighting ecosystems that meet code, enhance efficiency, and integrate seamlessly with broader automation platforms.

As a key technical leader, youll work directly with architects, engineers, and electricians to ensure seamless integration and flawless performance of lighting control systems. Youll be the go-to expert from prewire through final sign-offtransforming plans into real-world brilliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • System Design & Engineering
    • Develop lighting control layouts and one-line diagrams from architectural/electrical plans

    • Select and specify lighting control devices (sensors, dimmers, controllers, gateways)

    • Ensure compliance with ASHRAE 90.1, IECC, Title 24, and other energy codes

    • Coordinate system integration with Building Automation Systems (BMS/BAS)

  • Programming & Commissioning
    • Program and configure systems (e.g., Lutron, Crestron, Acuity, Legrand, Enlighted)

    • Commission lighting systems to verify proper operation and meet design intent

    • Test scenes, schedules, sensors, and automation functions for optimal performance

  • Technical Support & Troubleshooting
    • Diagnose wiring, communication, and control logic issues

    • Provide remote and on-site technical support during and post-installation

    • Maintain detailed system documentation and as-built records

  • Project Coordination
    • Collaborate with electrical contractors, lighting designers, and internal teams

    • Review submittals and prewire plans; ensure high-quality installation

    • Track labor, schedules, and project progress using project management software (D-Tools preferred)

    • Communicate progress, risks, and milestones to stakeholders

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Associates degree in Construction, Building Systems, or related field preferred

  • 5+ years of experience in commercial lighting controls and system design

  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, circuiting, and lighting control protocols (BACnet, DALI, DMX, Modbus, PoE)

  • Proficiency in manufacturer software (Lutron, nLight, DALI, etc.)

  • Experience using CAD or Revit to read and create electrical drawings

  • Excellent communication, organization, and coordination skills

Schedule
  • Full-Time

  • Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM

  • Occasional travel for site commissioning and client meetings

Location
  • Onsite Fort Lee, NJ

  • Travel to commercial job sites throughout the tri-state area as needed
