The Director of Total Rewards leads the strategy, design, and administration of compensation, benefits, annual incentive and commission plans, payroll, and recognition programs to attract, retain, and motivate talent across clinical, patient-facing, and corporate teams in a fast-growing, multi-state healthcare organization. The Director of Total Rewards leads the strategy, design, and administration of compensation, benefits, annual incentive and commission plans, payroll, and recognition programs to attract, retain, and motivate talent across clinical, patient-facing, and corporate teams in a fast-growing, multi-state healthcare organization. The role ensures programs are competitive, equitable, compliant, and cost-effective-and that employees clearly understand the full value of their rewards.

Here is what you will need:
- Bachelor's in HR/Business/Finance/Accounting
- 7+ years progressive total rewards experience, including ownership of annual incentive plan and commission plan design; multi-state healthcare or multi-site services preferred.
- Direct leadership of payroll operations a plus.
- Strong knowledge of FLSA, ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, and federal/state/local payroll and wage-hour laws.
- Tools: ADP and CompAnalyst
- Certifications: CCP/CBP/CEBS/SHRM-SCP/SPHR, FPC/CPP a plus.
A Day in the Life of a Director of Total Rewards:
Provide services and support for the following areas:
Total Rewards Strategy
- Own a holistic total rewards strategy (pay, benefits, variable pay, payroll experience, recognition, and well-being) aligned to business goals and the EVP.
- Monitor market trends and recommend program changes balancing competitiveness, equity, and affordability.
- Deliver clear, employee-friendly communications that increase rewards understanding and appreciation.
Compensation (Base & Variable)
- Maintain compensation philosophy, job architecture/leveling, salary structures, differentials (shift/weekend/on-call), and market/hard-to-fill adjustments.
- Lead market pricing using industry surveys; advise on offers, promotions, and retention.
- Annual Incentive Plans:
- Own enterprise AIP design for corporate, clinical, and operations roles (eligibility, metrics/weights, thresholds, caps, line-of-sight).
- Partner with Finance to model cost/ROI across scenarios; set governance calendars (goal-setting, mid-year calibration, year-end payout).
- Define plan documents/rules (treatment of hires/terms/LOA, prorations, extraordinary items) and ensure audit-ready calculations.
- Commission / Revenue-Generating Variable Pay:
- Design and administer sales/Business Development commission frameworks
- Partner with Legal/Compliance to ensure structures are appropriate for healthcare (e.g., compliant with federal/state laws, including Anti-Kickback/Stark where applicable) and limited to permissible roles/activities.
- Clinical Incentives: Build/maintain clinical productivity and quality-based incentives aligned to patient experience, safety, throughput, and access.
- Oversee annual merit cycles and bonus/commission payouts; ensure FLSA compliance and pay equity reviews.
Benefits, Well-Being & Leave
- Lead strategy/administration for health & welfare, retirement, and voluntary benefits; manage brokers/vendors and SLAs.
- Drive open enrollment, education, and experience improvements; manage trend vs budget.
- Ensure compliance (ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, Section 125); partner with HR Ops on FMLA/parental/state leaves.
Payroll Operations
- Own end-to-end payroll for a multi-state workforce; lead team, calendars, SLAs, and internal controls.
- Ensure accurate taxes, garnishments, deductions, imputed income, and year-end (W-2/W-2c); coordinate ACA 1095-C with Benefits.
- Govern HRIS/time/payroll integrations, GL mapping, reconciliations, and audit readiness (SOX/SOC1 where applicable).
M&A / Growth Support
- Lead total rewards due diligence and harmonization for acquisitions, de-novo sites, and JVs (comp/benefits/variable pay/payroll).
Leadership & Collaboration
- Build and mentor a high-performing Total Rewards team; set KPIs and development paths.
- Partner with Finance, Legal/Compliance, and Operations; enable self-service and scalable processes.
