Description:

Supervisory Report: Chief Medical Officer, Behavioral Health Consultant

Job Summary: The L.C.S.W. conducts mental health diagnostic evaluations for children, adolescents and adults and provides treatment accordingly. Completes documentation in the EMR, participates in clinical and peer consultation groups and communicates professionally with medical staff and community partners.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Assists in the assessment, planning, arranging and implementing of psychosocial programs e.g. domestic violence, parenting skills, etc.
  2. Evaluates patients and provides counseling and crisis intervention as required.
  3. Collaborate with other professionals to evaluate patients' medical or physical condition and to assess client needs.
  4. Counsel clients and patients in individual and group sessions to help them overcome dependencies, recover from illness, and adjust to life.
  5. Conducts specific targeted counseling programs such as P.C.I. T. in dealing with the need for child/parent interventions.
  6. Refers patient, client, or family to community resources to assist in recovery from mental or physical illness and to provide access to services such as financial assistance, legal aid, housing, job placement or education or other community services as required.
  7. Collaborate with other professionals remain current with new behavioral health approaches and strategies.
Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:

Masters in Social Work

3-5 years experience in private practice or public health setting.

Licensed to work in the State of Delaware.

This profession requires emotional resilience and stability as some of the work involves dealing with crisis.

Language:

Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills preferred.

Performance Requirements:

Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with area wide social service programs.
  • Knowledge of counseling and intervention practices.
  • Understanding of standard use and care of medical equipment and supplies.
  • Knowledge of EMR system, medical record documentation requirements and state/federal laws related to the release of health care information.

Skills:

  • Organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills.

Abilities:

  • Ability to make sound psychological assessments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and develop rapport with patients and staff.
  • Capable of working with a diverse ethnic population.
  • Ability to manage time
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly.

Equipment Operated:

Computer use and proficiency required.

Work Environment:

Medical offices in Health Center. Controlled lighting, air quality, and temperature settings. Environmental hazards may be unpredictable including exposure to communicable diseases and biohazards.

Mental/Physical Requirements:

Involves standing, walking, kneeling, bending, grasping, manipulating and squatting and lifting (up to 50 pounds). Walking or standing may be more than two (2) hours per day. Must be able to work in a standard medical office setting including use of a computer, and standard office equipment. Must have ability to read computer screens, printed materials and hearing and speech to communicate in person as well as over the phone. Must be able to attend meetings or make presentations at various sites when required. Stress can be a component of this job, triggered by an individual’s response to workload or specific cases.
