Art Director

Job Summary: The Art Director, Marketing and Communications is a hands-on creative leader responsible for shaping and elevating the visual expression of the WMCHealth brand across all platforms. This role blends conceptual thinking, design excellence, and strategic insight to translate ideas into powerful visual storytelling that connects with audiences and strengthens the organization’s presence across the Hudson Valley.

Reporting to the Senior Creative Director, the Art Director collaborates closely with copywriters, strategists, and project managers to develop and execute integrated campaigns spanning digital, print, video, and social media. The ideal candidate brings superior design skills and creative craftsmanship across every touchpoint of omni- channel marketing, ensuring that each visual expression, from a single post to a full-scale campaign, reflects clarity, consistency, and purpose.

While primarily a visual leader, the Art Director also brings an appreciation for concept and copy development, offering ideas that strengthen messaging and contribute to more unified, compelling storytelling. They combine creative instinct with technical expertise, a passion for innovation, and the ability to make confident, on-brand design decisions in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This is an opportunity to help shape one of the Hudson Valley’s most trusted and forward-looking healthcare brands creating work that is as purposeful as it is inspiring.

Responsibilities:

  • Bring ideas to life through thoughtful, high-quality design.
  • From initial concept to finished layout, you’ll have a hands-on role in developing creative across digital, print, social, and video platforms.
  • Balance imagination with precision, making sure every piece of work feels intentional, on-brand, and visually strong.
  • Design with range & guide how the WMCHealth brand shows up everywhere — from large-scale campaigns to smaller social moments. Your work will adapt across formats and audiences while maintaining one cohesive visual voice.
  • Collaborate with copywriters, strategists, and project managers to shape integrated campaigns from the ground up.
  • Connect words and visuals in fresh, unexpected ways and feel comfortable contributing to concept and copy ideas when inspiration strikes.
  • Build out brand systems, refine design standards, and keep the work modern and consistent, with room for creativity where it matters most.
  • Be someone who truly loves design — the details, the typography, the composition. Stay curious, draw inspiration from culture, and bring that sensibility to every project. Care as much about how something feels as how it looks.
  • Guide the visual direction of photography, video, and motion projects. From storyboards to color grading, ensure every visual element contributes to a cohesive and authentic story.
  • Work closely with creative, marketing, and communications teams, along with external partners and vendors, to keep projects running smoothly. Manage timelines and deliverables, give clear feedback, and maintain a positive, collaborative rhythm across the team.
  • Stay connected to what’s next in design, technology, and media. Experiment with new tools and techniques, including AI-driven design and motion platforms, to keep our creative work fresh, relevant, and forward-looking.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • 7 years of professional experience in graphic design or art direction, required.
  • A portfolio that showcases conceptual thinking, design excellence, and storytelling across digital, print, social, and video media, required.
  • Experience within an agency, in-house creative team, or brand-focused marketing environment, preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field, required.
  • Master’s degree or additional coursework in art direction, design strategy, AI, or visual communication, preferred.

Licenses / Certifications:

  • Design-related certifications (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, UX/UI design, or project management), preferred

Other: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects) and familiarity with design collaboration tools such as Figma and Canva. Working knowledge of video and motion design workflows, including story boarding and post-production. Experience using AI-assisted creative platforms such as Adobe Firefly, Runway, or Midjourney is preferred. Must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Special Requirements: Strong foundation in typography, color, layout, and composition. A genuine passion for visual aesthetics, branding, and design culture — someone who stays curious, draws inspiration from the world around them, and brings that awareness to their work. Ability to communicate ideas clearly and confidently, both visually and verbally, and to bring a thoughtful, artful perspective to every project. Demonstrated experience in brand development — including creating and maintaining visual identity systems, brand guidelines, and multi-channel design standards. Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, from concept through final production, while maintaining high creative standards.
