Description: Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) – Full TimeMake a Difference Through Lived Experience

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) to support individuals throughout their recovery journey. In this role, you will use your lived experience with mental health or substance use recovery to provide encouragement, guidance, and connection to resources that empower individuals to build confidence and achieve lasting stability.

This position is ideal for someone passionate about helping others, building meaningful relationships, and supporting recovery through empathy, respect, and shared experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide peer support and recovery coaching to individuals in mental health and/or substance use recovery
  • Respond to client needs, including assistance during crises or urgent situations
  • Meet regularly with clients to offer guidance, encouragement, and goal-focused support
  • Collaborate with clients to develop coping strategies and recovery plans
  • Maintain regular contact with clients via phone and in-person meetings
  • Communicate updates or concerns to case managers and clinical team members
  • Connect clients with community resources and recovery services
  • Promote empowerment, self-advocacy, and personal accountability
  • Foster supportive relationships built on trust, empathy, and respect
  • Document interactions and maintain confidentiality standards
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Lived experience with mental health recovery, substance use recovery, trauma, or co-occurring conditions
  • Demonstrated personal recovery journey and willingness to appropriately self-disclose
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Compassionate, non-judgmental approach to supporting others
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) or willingness to obtain certification
  • Minimum one (1) year of peer support or related experience
  • Knowledge of local recovery and community resources
Certification Requirement
  • Ability to complete a required 5-day online training program and pass certification examination (minimum score of 75%)
