Overview
This position reports directly to the Ships Manager in both New Construction/PSA as well as Overhaul and Repair as required. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to, daily planning and schedule execution of submarine construction activities on the Groton waterfront. This includes managing Area Superintendents, Assistant Area Superintendents, General Foremen, Operations Supervisors, and various other support organizations personnel.
Primary responsibility will be managing safety, quality, cost and budget development for their assigned project. Candidate will also assess manning, schedule and continuous improvement processes to ensure the department is striving to achieve operational excellence.
The successful candidate will have overall responsibility of the following:
- Assist the Ships Manager with management and coordination of work during new construction/overhaul
- Coordination of tasks involving multiple personnel and organizations in a manner that supports established schedules, strictly adheres to Shipyard safety standards, and ensures product quality
- Interface and effectively communicate with management from various departments: Operations, Nuclear Test, RadCon, Inspection, Engineering, Ship’s Force, RPCO, and NRRO
- Proper administration of documents associated with nuclear work, such as TIRs, Ripouts, ERs, and Work Orders
- Provide additional oversite to Critical/Controlling path work and high risk evolutions
- Administration of overtime assignment for D271 personnel to maximize efficiency and balance work/home life
- Train Assistant Area Superintendents and Area Superintendents while fostering operational excellence
- Act as Ships Manager in the absence of He/She/They
- Train with Ships Manager to establish clear and seamless lines of succession
The applicant must be able to qualify for and maintain a radiation “J” badge.

Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- High School diploma / GED or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years Area Superintendent experience
- Ability/willingness to support overtime and off shift hours as required to support Key events
PREFERRED:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Previous trade experience
- VA Class Program experience
