About This Position

Position Overview
We are a growing, mid-sized personal injury law firm seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead the charge within our accounting and financial operations. This role is critical to ensuring financial accuracy, strengthening internal controls, and providing strategic insights to support continued growth.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical accounting expertise and experience managing complex financial operations in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Perform and review complex general journal entries (GJEs) in compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements
• Manage loan-related accounting, including origination, amortization schedules, waterfall calculations, and interest tracking
• Oversee preparation and review of financial statements to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance
• Analyze and reconcile complex accounts, resolving discrepancies in a timely manner
• Lead all financial reporting activities, including month-end and year-end close processes
• Manage cash flow, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions
• Develop and maintain budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes
• Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior leadership to support strategic planning and firm growth
• Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard financial data and ensure accuracy
• Coordinate and prepare for internal and external audits
• Manage relationships with financial institutions, including tracking liabilities and lines of credit
• Collaborate cross-functionally to gather financial data and improve operational decision-making
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering accountability and continuous improvement
• Stay current on accounting standards, regulatory changes, and industry best practices

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA strongly preferred)
• 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility
• Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accounting Manager
• Software proficiency
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
• Experience managing complex financial structures, loans, and cash flow
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills
• Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on in a growing organization

Preferred Experience
• Experience in a personal injury or contingency-fee law firm
• Familiarity with case cost accounting, settlement tracking, and trust/IOLTA accounts
• Experience working in a high-growth or multi-entity environment
