The Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and data architecture that support reporting, analytics, and business intelligence initiatives across the organization. This IT role is critical cross-functional business partner to the Sales, Operations, and Leadership teams that will enable enterprise reporting in Power BI by structuring, integrating, migrating, and validating data that is accessible, secure, and optimized for dashboards and reporting solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Data Architecture & Engineering

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and Snowflake data structures to ingest, transform, and store data from multiple internal and external sources
  • Develop and manage data models optimized for analytics and reporting use cases
  • Ensure data quality, accuracy, consistency, and integrity across all data platforms
  • Optimize database and query performance for large datasets

Power BI & Analytics Enablement

  • Develop and maintain Power BI data models, datasets, and semantic layers
  • Enable reliable Power BI connectivity to data warehouses, SQL databases, APIs, and cloud-based sources
  • Partner with analysts and business users to support Power BI dashboards, reports, and self-service analytics
  • Own the Power BI semantic layer strategy (dataset design, measures, governance, and performance)
  • Implement data refresh strategies, row-level security (RLS), and performance tuning for Power BI solutions

Systems Integration

  • Integrate data from enterprise systems (e.g., ERP, HRIS, Payroll, CRM, finance, operations)
  • Work with APIs, flat files, and third-party data sources to automate data ingestion
  • Support real-time and batch data processing as needed

Data Governance & Security

  • Implement data governance standards, documentation, and best practices
  • Ensure compliance with data security, privacy, and access control requirements
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline failures and data quality issues

Collaboration & Support

  • Collaborate with IT, and business stakeholders to translate reporting and analytics requirements into technical solutions
  • Provide ongoing support and enhancements to existing data infrastructure
  • Document data pipelines, data models, and technical processes

Competencies & Skills

  • Hands-on experience building data pipelines using ETL/ELT tools or custom frameworks
  • Proven experience supporting Power BI connectivity, datasets, semantic models, and data models
  • Translate business reporting needs into scalable, dashboard-ready data models and curated datasets, ensuring accuracy through validation, reconciliation, and documented definitions
  • Experience working with structured and semi-structured data

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3–7 years of experience in data engineering, database development, or analytics engineering
  • Strong experience with SQL and relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL)
  • Prior experience supporting HR, payroll, finance, or operational data environments
  • Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
  • Preferred familiarity with Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, or similar tools
  • Knowledge of Python, Spark, or similar data processing languages preferred
