RESIDENT CARE WORKER
Outpatient Plus: Recovery House
Wisconsin Community Services

Job Summary

The Resident Care Worker provides supportive, recovery-oriented interaction and monitoring of individuals with mental health, substance use, and/or co-occurring needs, residing in the WCS Recovery House.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor resident and guest activity to ensure safety and well-being.
  • Conduct hourly rounds and regular wellness checks throughout the Recovery House
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed.
  • Use verbal de-escalation techniques (e.g. Vistelar) to prevent escalation and promote a safe environment.
  • Notify the Program Manager of emergencies and respond as needed.
  • Interact with residents in a recovery-focused, trauma-informed, strength-based, and person-centered manner.
  • Act as a positive role model and utilize Motivational Interviewing and other supportive techniques to enhance engagement.
  • Record and relay resident inquiries and concerns to the Program Manager. Communicate all resident and facility-related incidents promptly and accurately.
  • Document all resident contacts, incidents, and wellness checks in resident files.
  • Complete documentation in Avatar for any CCS enrolled individuals.
  • Respond to general inquiries (phone and door), greet guests, and maintain the check-in/check-out log.
  • Maintain building security and sanitation to ensure a safe and clean environment for all.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year of experience serving adults with mental health, substance use, and/or co-occurring needs. Additional education may substitute for some experience.
  • Meet all WCS and contractor requirements for criminal and caregiver background checks, driver’s record, and drug screen.
  • Valid driver's license, automobile, and sufficient insurance to meet agency requirements.




Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse setting with individuals experiencing mental health, substance use and/or co-occurring needs.
  • Strong communication skills; compassionate, patient, and able to maintain confidentiality in all communication.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision while being a collaborative team member.
  • Skilled in multitasking, taking initiative, and applying knowledge across various situations.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the agency’s mission and values.
  • Conduct self ethically and professionally in all interactions. Maintain respectful, collaborative relationships with staff, individuals served, and external partners.
  • Adhere to agency Code of Conduct, Core Values, and all relevant policies and procedures and

    funding source requirements.

  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and awareness of ethnic, gender, and disability-related issues.


SCHEDULE /WORK HOURS:

Part Time, weekends, 2nd shift
Saturdays and Sundays 4:30pm-12:30am

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Position involves movement within the Recovery House. Able to navigate stairs and lift/carry 20 pounds. Able to perform general upkeep of the common areas of the building and assist residents with light housekeeping duties.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed primarily in a transitional living setting serving individuals with mental health, substance use, and/or co-occurring needs residing in the Recovery House. Work schedule must be flexible to meet the needs of

the people being served; first, second, and rotating weekend shifts required.
