Position Overview

The Orthodontic Dental Assistant plays a key role in supporting the orthodontist and clinical team in delivering high-quality patient care. This role requires strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to create a welcoming and comfortable experience for patients of all ages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the orthodontist during clinical procedures
  • Prepare and sterilize instruments and treatment rooms
  • Take dental impressions, digital scans, and photographs
  • Place and remove orthodontic appliances under doctor supervision (brackets, wires, bands, etc., per state regulations)
  • Adjust archives and change elastics as directed
  • Take orthodontic X-rays in compliance with state guidelines
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene, appliance care, and treatment expectations
  • Maintain accurate patient records and clinical notes
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control protocols
  • Support efficient patient flow and operatory turnover
  • Assist with inventory management and stocking supplies
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Prior dental assisting experience required (orthodontic experience preferred)
  • Dental Assistant certification as required by state
  • Orthodontic assisting experience or certification (if applicable)
  • X-ray certification (as required by state)
  • CPR/BLS certification preferred
  • Experience with dental software (Dentrix, Ortho2, Open Dental, etc.) preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
