About This Position
Job Purpose:
The Director of Safety is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing 21 Airs comprehensive safety programs to ensure regulatory compliance, accident prevention, and the protection of employees, and company assets. This role establishes reporting systems, monitors trends, conducts audits, and coordinates emergency response procedures while fostering a culture of safety awareness across all levels of the organization. The Safety Manager also serves as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities and industry organizations to maintain the highest standards of operational safety.
Duties & Responsibilities:
•Report as the Company Safety designee on all safety programs and urgent regulatory compliance matters.
•Identify safety issues and provide coordination with the effected internal/external organization.
•Meet all requirements of 14 CFR Part 119.65 and is the same title as the FAA required Director of Safety.
•Establish a reporting system and provides for a timely and free flow of safety-related information.
•Develop a company Safety Program with guidance from the CEO & President and in conjunction with staff members.
•Develop, implement, and maintain the emergency Response Program in accordance with the manual control procedures for the effective handling of incidents, accidents, occurrences, injuries, loss of life or property, including the review and evaluation of the adequacy of the Emergency Response Plan.
•Develop an aggressive audit program to validate compliance, identify problem areas, recommend courses of action, and assess adequacy of corrective action and follow-up.
•Develop and maintain a database of incident/accident information to monitor and analyze trends.
•Monitor and evaluate the various safety and malfunction reporting systems to ensure appropriate integration and evaluation data.
•Investigate and report on incidents/accidents and make recommendations to preclude a recurrence.
•Ensure all required internal audits and inspections are accomplished and action items addressed.
•Solicits and processes safety improvement suggestions.
•Develops and maintains a safety awareness program.
•Maintain close liaison with the FAA, NTSB, and industry safety organizations and associations.
•Ensure regulatory compliance with all applicable federal regulations, including Federal Aviation Regulations, Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations.
•Ensure effective communication to all 21 Air Employees, vendors, and contract employees through a Safety Communications Program of all matters relating to safety.
•Brief the CEO & President, Operations and staff on a regular basis regarding the safety, health of the Company, the accident prevention program, and trends/audit results.Coordinate implementation of all accident prevention endeavors and assist the staff at every level in achieving Company safety objectives.
•Interface with the functional directors and the Chief Pilot and others as necessary to ensure that regulatory information and 21 Air methods of compliance are promulgated to all employees who have a need to know.
•Work with Human Resources Responsible for all compliance of the airline employee background investigations, Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) fingerprints administration, information, and file requirements.
•Perform other assigned duties appointed by the CEO & President.
Requirements:Skills & Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree in related field is preferred.
•5+ years of experience in airline operations/safety.
Extensive knowledge of aviation safety regulations, including FAA, NTSB, OSHA, and other applicable federal regulations.
•Proven experience in developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive safety and emergency response programs.
•Strong analytical skills to monitor trends, conduct audits, investigate incidents, and recommend corrective actions.
•Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills to promote a culture of safety, train staff, and communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
•Ability to develop and maintain safety awareness programs, databases, and reporting systems.
Physical Requirements
•Light work: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
•Ability to stand, bend, and reach to maintain files, sit for extended periods of time.
Travel
•This position may require travel, as needed, to support operational related activities.
