This is a full-time in-office role, M-F from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm with a 1-hour lunch. Candidates living farther than 40 miles or 1 1/2 hours from the office will not be considered for the position.

Salary: $75,000 - $100,000

Job Description:

The Design Technician is responsible for developing shop drawings, roof plans, product submittals, and construction details to support new roofing and re-roofing projects. This role works closely with estimating, project management, general contractors, and manufacturers to ensure designs are accurate, compliant, and approved for construction.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Roofing experience is a plus, but a strong willingness & ability to learn roofing systems, standards, and manufacturer requirements is essential.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop shop drawings, roof plans, product submittals, and detailed construction drawings for new construction and re-roofing projects.Interpret project drawings, specifications, and contract documents to produce accurate, buildable designs.Attend and participate in preconstruction meetings with general contractors and project teams.Coordinate with roofing manufacturers to develop project-specific details and resolve technical challenges.Submit design details, product submittals, and shop drawings through Procore or similar software for review and approval.Submit design details and product substitutions to manufacturers for review and approval to ensure warranty compliance.Collaborate with the estimating and operations teams, particularly on re-roofing projects, to support scope development and project planning.Create and maintain a database of standard roofing details for use by estimating and project management teams.Revise drawings based on feedback from internal teams, field conditions, and external stakeholders.Review and incorporate design changes, project bulletins, and ASIs into drawings and project documentation.Assist in evaluating change orders and design revisions to identify scope impacts and support pricing efforts.Support problem-solving related to design and detailing challenges throughout the project lifecycle.Follow up with estimating, internal project teams, and general contractors regarding approvals, questions, and responses, and maintain a tracking database of approvals and due dates.Maintain organized drawing files, version control, and project documentation.Ensure all approved drawings and submittals are accessible to relevant team members.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.Ability to work under deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously.Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.Strong communication skills to work with general contractors, manufacturers, and internal teams.Produce accurate, complete, and timely product data & shop drawings, and design details.Ensure all manufacturer and submittal approvals are obtained before project start.Effectively support estimating and project teams with design input and coordination.Accurately incorporate and track design changes, bulletins, and revisions throughout the project lifecycle.Identify cost impacts from change orders and design modifications in a timely manner.Maintain and continuously improve the standard detail library.Successfully manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Demonstrate the ability to learn and apply roofing system knowledge and industry standards.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Shop Drawing Turnaround Time: Complete and submit shop drawings within established timelines based on project size and schedule.Revision & Bulletin Accuracy: Accurately incorporate design changes, ASIs, and project bulletins with minimal errors or rework.Manufacturer Approval Timeliness: Submit and obtain manufacturer approvals in alignment with project schedules to avoid delays.Project Load Management: Effectively manage multiple active projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality.

Education & Experience Requirements:

2+ years of drafting, design, or construction-related experience preferred.Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.Experience with AutoCAD or similar drafting software preferred.Proficiency with Google Workspace, PlanSwift, Salesforce, Slack, and SafetyCulture preferred.Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, or similar construction management software preferred.Roofing or re-roofing experience is a plus; however, willingness to learn is required.
