About This Position

Description:

The Director of Humane Education will lead a passionate team and shape the strategy behind one of our core mission-aligned efforts, designing and delivering engaging education experiences for people of all ages, from classrooms to community events. This is a leadership role for someone who is equal parts visionary and doer.

Essential Job Duties

Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the humane education team of staff and volunteers, fostering a culture of growth, accountability, and shared purpose.
  • Build and manage the annual department budget, driving revenue and grant opportunities.
  • Partner with teams across the organization to weave humane education into the fabric of Lollypop Farm, ensuring programs reflect current, accurate animal welfare information and include staff in programming.
  • Cultivate partnerships locally and nationally with schools, civic organizations, community groups, and professional networks including the Association of Professional Humane Educators (APHE).
  • Stay current on trends in humane education and animal welfare, bringing fresh ideas and industry insight into leadership conversations.
  • Lead through change and challenge with empathy, clear communication, and resilience.

Humane Education Programming

  • Drive the vision and strategy for a dynamic humane education program that includes workshops, classes, summer camp, school and shelter visits, community events, and online resources, reaching diverse audiences of all ages.
  • Develop research-based, culturally responsive curriculum and materials, continuously improving programs to reflect community needs and best practices.
  • Establish clear evaluation methods that track and share impact metrics, success stories, and data for grant and donor reporting.
  • Partner with the communications team to market programs and showcase impact.
  • Ensure all programs meet regulatory standards and best practices for participant safety and well-being.
  • Represent Lollypop Farm at public events and community engagements, presenting confidently to audiences of all sizes.

Humane Education Administration

  • Develop and maintain department SOPs and systems, ensuring smooth operations, accurate data management, and reporting.
  • Manage vendors, supplies, curriculum materials, classrooms, and educational displays, keeping everything organized and in excellent condition.
  • Maintain current First Aid and CPR certification and any other required credentials.
  • Uphold all company policies and applicable laws; perform other duties as needed
Requirements:

Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field. 4+ years of leadership experience, and 5+ years delivering education programming strongly preferred. Experience teaching groups diverse in age, culture, and socioeconomic background is strongly preferred, as is knowledge of humane education best practices and prior shelter or nonprofit experience. First Aid/CPR certification preferred. A combination of education and experience will be considered if aligned with the position.

Skills: Demonstrated strategic thinking, project management, and collaboration skills. Ability to set priorities, inspire a team, and meet deadlines. Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to design and assess educational programs and build lasting community partnerships. Ability to manage a budget and report on outcomes. Proficient (or eager to become proficient) in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Canva, and registration systems.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position during shift, move throughout the building and in the community, and move weight up to 50 pounds. Frequently required to communicate with others. Occasionally required to move excessive weight. This position requires car travel and performing duties in locations other than Lollypop Farm.
