EPA Drinking Water Database & Application Specialist
(SDWIS / DW-SFTIES)
Location: Denver, CO (EPA Region 8)

Job Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Database and Application Specialist to support the EPA Region 8 Drinking Water Program. This position provides direct technical support for EPA drinking water data systems, including SDWIS/STATE and DW-SFTIES, ensuring data integrity, regulatory compliance, and operational reliability.
The ideal candidate will have strong database development skills, experience supporting regulatory systems, and the ability to work closely with EPA program and technical staff in an on-site federal environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain, enhance, and support SDWIS/STATE and DW-SFTIES applications
- Design, develop, and maintain Oracle and relational database tables
- Support data migration, validation, and quality assurance activities
- Develop and maintain Microsoft Access applications, including queries, forms, and reports
- Support drinking water compliance activities in accordance with 40 CFR Part 141
- Prepare monthly status reports, technical documentation, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Support Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs) and comply with EPA QA/QC standards
- Ensure compliance with EPA cybersecurity and privacy requirements
- Collaborate with EPA staff, contractors, and stakeholders to support program goals
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
- 5+ years of database and/or application development experience
- Hands-on experience with Oracle, SQL, and Microsoft Access
- Experience supporting government, environmental, or regulatory data systems preferred
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills

- Ability to work on-site at EPA Region 8 in Denver, CO
- Ability to successfully pass required background checks
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating within a multidisciplinary team
