Regional Sales Director - Pharmaceutical Sales

This leadership role is responsible for driving commercial performance and strategic execution across a large regional territory within the pharmaceutical sector, with a focus on specialty and transplant-related therapies. You will lead, coach, and develop a high-performing sales team while shaping regional strategy aligned with national objectives. The role combines field leadership with strategic planning, requiring strong market insight and the ability to translate business goals into actionable sales execution. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners including medical affairs, market access, and sales operations to optimize performance across the region. This position plays a key role in identifying growth opportunities, strengthening customer relationships, and ensuring strong execution in a highly specialized therapeutic area. It is a high-impact role that directly contributes to improving patient outcomes through innovative treatment access and adoption.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead, manage, and develop a regional team of Territory Account Managers, fostering a culture of accountability, performance excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Design and execute a regional sales strategy aligned with national brand objectives to drive revenue growth and market expansion.
  • Conduct field engagement activities, including coaching and performance assessments, to ensure strong execution and development of team capabilities.
  • Identify market opportunities and challenges, translating insights into actionable plans to improve sales performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Sales Operations, Market Access, and Field Medical to ensure aligned execution.
  • Manage regional budget and oversee P&L performance, ensuring alignment with corporate financial expectations.
  • Drive talent acquisition, development, and retention efforts within the regional team.
  • Provide strategic input to senior leadership on market trends, competitive dynamics, and regional performance.
  • Ensure full compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
  • Participate in regional and national meetings to align on strategy and share field insights.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Life Sciences, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 5–7+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience, ideally with leadership of field sales teams.
  • Strong background in specialty or rare disease pharmaceutical sales preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing commercial teams.
  • Strong scientific and clinical understanding with the ability to communicate complex therapeutic concepts.
  • Excellent strategic thinking and business acumen with the ability to identify market trends and opportunities.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Understanding of pharmaceutical regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to manage budgets and contribute to regional P&L performance.
  • Willingness to travel extensively (60–75%) across a large geographic territory.
