Responsible for the patient’s initial contact both in person and telephonically, acts as the primary contact for patients as it relates to accurate account information. Verifies benefits, completes registration, initiates up front collections as well as ensures the patient is properly identified. Scans and indexes all patient information and related forms in a timely manner. Responds quickly to incoming calls through multi line phone system and accurately schedules appointments. Balances cash, payment postings and reports this activity daily. Duties & Responsibilities- Greets incoming patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner. Registers patients into the computer system for each encounter by obtaining accurate demographic and insurance information. Verifies insurance benefits and eligibility using insurance verification software and/or payer websites. Verifies identity of all patients.
- Initiates up front collections advising patients of any co pay, deductible and deposit amounts. Provides necessary information to self pay patients, including self pay discounts, payment plans and referring to Office Manager/Supervisor and/or the Billing Office as needed.
- Ensures appropriate forms are signed and if applicable scanned into the electronic health record (EHR) in a timely and accurate manner. Maintains proficient knowledge of scanning and indexing information for the patient record.
- Courteously and quickly answers incoming phone calls and routes to appropriate person or creates a detailed message in the EHR for practice staff. Appropriately uses telephone and intercom system. Adheres to the policy that direct patient care should not be interrupted unless absolutely necessary.
- Developing professional relationships with corporate clients to assist with occupational medicine and worker's compensation services.
Education/ Qualifications
Required- High school graduate or possess GED
- 1-2 years experience in an Occupational Medicine setting required
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- General office skills including typing, use of computer everyday job performance
- Efficiency in using internet/email, EHR and data entry
- Medical office experience preferred
- Medical terminology and insurance experience
