Staff Accountant

The Staff Accountant helps Clicklease maintain accurate financial operations in Costa Rica by executing payroll, managing accounts payable, and ensuring compliance with local regulations.
This role is structured as a temporary independent contractor engagement with the potential to transition into a permanent position after one year, based on performance and business needs. As a contractor, you will be responsible for your own taxes, benefits, and statutory obligations (e.g., CCSS/INS where applicable). This is an outcomes-based engagement that does not create an employer-employee relationship, and contractors maintain flexibility in how work is performed while collaborating with the Clicklease team as needed.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys owning core accounting processes, working with precision, and ensuring financial data integrity in a dynamic environment.
Modality:
Hybrid (2 days in office in Alajuela, Costa Rica, near the airport)
Schedule:
Part-time (4–5 hours daily, Monday–Friday)

Competitive salary in USD
The TeamYou will be part of the Finance & Accounting team, working closely with the Controller and external accounting partners to support accurate financial reporting and compliance across Costa Rica operations.
- Owning end-to-end payroll execution for Costa Rica employees, including statutory calculations and compliance
- Managing vendor invoice processing and maintaining accurate accounts payable records
- Reviewing and validating journal entries, reconciliations, and financial outputs from external accounting partners
- Ensuring expenses are properly classified to support accurate financial reporting and compliance
- Supporting month-end close processes to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial data
- Maintaining audit-ready documentation and ensuring adherence to local regulatory and Zona Franca requirements
- 3+ years of accounting experience
- Experience processing payroll for 100+ employees
- Knowledge of Costa Rican labor law and statutory requirements (CCSS, INS, tax withholdings)
- Experience working with outsourced accounting providers
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent practical experience
- Experience with Zona Franca compliance
- Membership in Colegio de Contadores
- Experience with ERP or payroll systems
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Independently executing payroll with full compliance and accuracy
- Maintaining clean accounts payable processes and timely vendor payments
- Supporting accurate and timely month-end close cycles
- Identifying and reducing expense misclassification issues
