About This Position
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Staff Infrastructure Engineer in Canada.
This role is designed for an experienced infrastructure professional who thrives on ownership, technical leadership, and hands-on engineering. You will lead complex infrastructure initiatives, mentor engineers, and influence the long-term direction of a cloud-based platform supporting mission-critical, highly regulated workflows. The position blends strategic decision-making with practical implementation, requiring expertise in AWS, container orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, ensure system reliability, security, and compliance, and contribute to continuous improvement of both systems and team capabilities. This is a remote-first role that offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on platform performance, developer experience, and operational excellence.
- Serve as the senior technical escalation point for the infrastructure team, guiding architecture decisions and implementation strategies.
- Design, build, and maintain highly available, distributed cloud infrastructure using AWS and related tooling.
- Develop and enhance infrastructure-as-code, automation, and self-service capabilities using Terraform, Nomad, Consul, and Vault.
- Lead incident response, conduct postmortems, and ensure operational reliability, observability, and security.
- Mentor and develop infrastructure engineers, conducting code reviews, knowledge sharing, and career guidance.
- Represent the team in cross-functional technical discussions, define standards and best practices, and contribute to hiring and onboarding processes.
- 8+ years of experience in infrastructure, SRE, platform, or DevOps engineering.
- Deep expertise with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS.
- Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code, primarily Terraform, and container orchestration tools like Kubernetes or Nomad.
- Experience with service mesh, service discovery, and secrets management tools such as Consul or Vault.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, networking, and security in production environments.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives from design to production, with excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Mentorship experience, fostering the growth and development of other engineers.
- Preferred: experience with HashiCorp tooling, regulated industries (healthcare, life sciences), compliance frameworks (HIPAA, SOC2, ISO 27001), observability platforms (Datadog, Grafana), and familiarity with genomics or laboratory systems.
- Competitive compensation aligned with experience and responsibilities.
- Remote-first work with flexible scheduling options.
- Comprehensive healthcare coverage, including medical, dental, and vision plans.
- Opportunities for professional development, mentorship, and career growth.
- Collaborative, inclusive, and diverse work environment.
- Access to modern infrastructure tools, automation, and innovation-focused projects.
- Participation in on-call rotation with support and training for production-critical systems.
