Refuse Truck Driver at Sunshine Disposal Inc – Airway Heights, Washington
About This Position
Sunshine Disposal & Recycling has an opening for a full time Refuse Truck Driver in our Airway Heights, WA business unit. Job duties include operation of Front load and side load automated garbage trucks as well as rear load style garbage trucks in residential and commercial locations. This is a Monday-Friday shift with a 5:00am start time. Some seasonal overtime may be required. Current Wage is $28.08 per hour and includes wage bumps of fifty cents every 6 months up to 36 months of employment; as well as annual COLA beginning in 2027. Basic computer literacy is required, and OJT is provided for industry specific programs. Class B CDL is required a Class A is preferred. Air Brake Certificate and valid DOT medical card are required. Applicant must be able to pass application for credentials to operate on Fairchild Air Force Base. Applicants must meet insurability requirements and comply with US DOT drug screening rules. Two (2) years CDL driving experience of similar vehicles is required. Sunshine Disposal & Recycling operates a modern fleet of vehicles. Our fleet uses driver-friendly onboard computers (tablet style), GPS technology and latest vehicle camera technology with outward facing and in cab cameras.
GENERAL JOB DUTIES (may be changed as business needs warrant):
- Arrive to work on time and receives paperwork and/or tablet. Perform Pre-trip inspection of the truck. Completes DVIR form in accordance with state, local and federal regulations. If maintenance is necessary, reports conditions to Supervisor before moving truck. Heads onto route when all systems are operating properly.
- Drive truck as routed in same geographic area on a daily and weekly basis; using provided dispatch and route information.
- Open and close container lids as needed. Note any maintenance issues with equipment/containers in tablet or on paper notes.
- Communicate effectively with the Route Supervisor and Operations Manager to ensure that there are no dispatch issues or issues with the route during the workday. Report any issues encountered immediately to the Lead Driver or Operations Manager.
- Returns truck to yard at end of workday. Perform basic clean out of truck body and cab.
- Perform vehicle post trip inspection upon returning to the terminal after route is completed for the day, Complete post-trip DVIR and let the Route Supervisor and Maintenance shop know of any maintenance areas necessary.
- Submit route work information via tablet data and paper notes containing extra charges and other customer notes each day.
- Attend all necessary meetings as scheduled including safety, training and other company scheduled meetings at locations as directed by the company.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements:Class B CDL with Air Brake Endorsement required.
Class A CDL preferred
Valid USDOT Medical Certificate (med card) required
Must meet insurance carrier requirements for driving record
Subject to USDOT/FMCSA drug and alcohol testing rules
Must pass security check for Fairchild Air Force Base access pass.
Safety Matters:
· Dash/drive Cameras in vehicles
· Use of cell and personal electronic devices while driving is prohibited
Physical Abilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:
- Regularly (5+ hours per day) sit, stand, seeing, hearing, walk, reach, grasp, fine finger manipulation, wrist flexion, operate foot and hand controls.
- Frequently (3-4 hours per day) climb, bend, pull/push.
- Occasionally (1-2 hours per day) Lift (up to 60 pounds), crawl, stoop/crouch, twist
Clearly see 20+ feet, with or without corrective lenses and differentiate between colors
