About This Position

Description:

Purpose of Position

Reporting directly to the Production Manager is responsible for executing preventative maintenance and repair of equipment within the butyl mixing, extrusion and wrap operations. The role ensures equipment reliability, production continuity, and safety compliance through expert troubleshooting and adherence to mechanical and electrical standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Preventive Maintenance: Executes scheduled maintenance on mixers, extruders, and other in-house machinery.
  • Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnoses mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues quickly and accurately.
  • Schematics: Able to read, interpret, and apply various forms of schematics such as electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic.
  • Fabrication and Mechanical: Apt at running conduit, SCH80 PVC, and capable of welding as needed.
  • Equipment Optimization: Suggests and implements improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Tooling: Maintain appropriate hand tools and diagnostic equipment.

Safety, Communication, and Teamwork

  • Follow all company safety protocols and housekeeping standards.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate repairs.
  • Exhibit a positive, team-oriented attitude and contribute to a collaborative work environment.

Other Duties

  • Accurately document maintenance activities.
  • Perform other maintenance-related tasks as assigned.
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Electrical Troubleshooting: Extensive knowledge and understanding of various voltages such as 120/208VAC 3 phase, 277/480VAC 3phase, and low voltage controls.
  • Temperature control systems: Experience with PID temperature controllers, solid state relays, and heaters.
  • Motors and Motor Controls: Extensive knowledge on motor and motor controls troubleshooting, such as contactors, overloads, VFD’s, and soft starts.
  • Hydraulic and Pneumatic Troubleshooting: Knowledge on various styles of hydraulic pumps and their operations. Experience troubleshooting DCV’s, pressure switches and check valves.
  • Low Voltage Controls Troubleshooting: Knowledge on low voltage controls such as PNP/NPN sensors, distance sensors, thermocouples, and encoders.
  • PLC Communication: Experience connecting and troubleshooting PLC’s using Ladder Logic is preferred.
  • Must supply and maintain personal tools and toolbox.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Industrial Maintenance Certification or equivalent is preferred
  • 5–7 years of industrial maintenance experience preferred.
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Prior experience with rubber, butyl or plastic extrusion and mixing machines.

Work Environments

Hours are Monday to Thursday 5:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with potential overtime.

Physical Demands

The Maintenance Technician role requires continuous standing and frequent walking throughout the workday, with minimal sitting. The position involves frequent stooping, bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, and regular use of machinery, tools, and hand gripping to perform maintenance and repair tasks. Crawling, kneeling, climbing, and balancing are rarely required, while forklift operation may be required continuously depending on operational needs. The role requires frequent lifting from floor and waist levels, with occasional overhead lifting. Employees must be capable of frequently lifting and carrying loads ranging from 10 pounds up to over 61 pounds. Work is performed in environments that may include heat, dirty conditions, and uneven surfaces, requiring physical endurance, mobility, and strength to safely and effectively perform essential job functions.
