About This Position
The General Sales Manager oversees all sales operations within the dealership. They are accountable for the customer retention, profitability, and the achievement of sales targets through effective team leadership and strategic planning.
Key Responsibilities
• Sales Leadership
o Hire, train, and supervise sales managers and sales staff.
o Set clear sales goals and performance standards.
o Coach and mentor the team on lead generation, follow-up, and closing techniques.
• Financial & Strategic Management
o Develop annual sales forecasts, including unit sales, gross profits, and expenses.
o Monitor department profitability and break-even data.
o Implement strategies to maximize revenue and minimize costs.
• Customer Relationship Management
o Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.
o Resolve customer complaints effectively and uphold ethical sales practices.
o Build long-term relationships with clients and community partners.
• Operational Oversight
o Coordinate with other dealership departments (service, finance, marketing).
o Maintain compliance with dealership policies and industry regulations.
o Oversee dealership inventory management and pricing strategies.
Skills & Qualifications
o Leadership & Communication: Strong ability to motivate and manage teams.
o Sales Expertise: Proven track record in automotive sales and closing deals.
o Analytical Ability: Skilled in forecasting, budgeting, and performance analysis.
o Customer Focus: Commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
o Experience: Typically 5–10 years in automotive sales, with at least 3 years in a management role.
o Education: Management, Marketing Graduate
Performance Metrics
o Achievement of monthly and annual sales targets.
o Gross profit margins for vehicle sales.
o Achievement of leads captured converted into sales.
o Percentage of vehicles in inventory exceeding age thresholds.
o Customer satisfaction scores and repeat business rates.
o Employee retention and performance improvement.
