About the Position

The Facilities Assistant manages responsibilities related to the physical buildings and equipment located at the SIFF Cinema Downtown, SIFF Film Center, SIFF Cinema Uptown theaters and SIFF office space at Seattle Center.

Collaborating closely with Cinema Managers, the Facilities Assistant supports the overall safety, security and continuity in building operations. The Facilities Assistant provides first line facilities maintenance support doing handi-work, supports coordination with contracted vendors, and completes other tasks necessary to ensure all SIFF theaters, workspaces and properties are functional, safe, clean, and code-compliant for both our staff and patrons.

This role works on an as-needed basis up to 20 hours per week. Working normal weekday business hours with early morning, evening and weekend work will sometimes be required.

Compensation: $29/hr

Reports to: Director of Cinema Operations and works closely with theater management and technical staff across our facilities.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Support specific facilities needs in preparation for the annual Seattle International Film Festival in May at SIFF facilities.
  • Respond to facilities challenges in a timely manner, performing basic handy work and repairs as needed.
  • Maintain, develop and document all procedures related to periodic maintenance, servicing, and inspection of equipment including popcorn machines, HVAC, plumbing fixtures, sewage systems, electrical fixtures and circuitry, pumps, motors, conveyance and related instruments/controls, etc. Work may entail addressing any and all of these items directly.
  • Maintain vendor list and accurate list of vendor services provided.
  • Collaborate with and support Seattle Center staff, janitorial, and security services to ensure proper office operations, maintenance, and other collaborative space related needs.
  • Coordinate and facilitate approved office/workspaces moves, desk set-up and space planning and allocation.
  • Ensure completion of ongoing regular maintenance, such as changing HVAC filters and light bulbs; plumbing, electrical, and carpentry projects; emergency repairs, etc.
  • Inventory and monitor Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment (FF&E) and make recommendations on repairs, replacements, or upgrades.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • 1-2 years in hands-on facilities maintenance work, repair work or handy work
  • Familiarity working with both manual and electric tools.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize competing demands

Work Environment: This position will work onsite at specified theater/s & offices above. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but with occasions where noise levels exceed normal limits and ear protection may be required. Temperatures can vary from location to location, with some duties being held outside. Strobe lights are sometimes used in the facilities. Employee will be expected to wear appropriate, task-specific Personal Protective Equipment including appropriate footwear and clothing.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time (5+ hours); walk; climb stairs and ladders; handle small mechanical parts; communicate with coworkers and vendor partners; and operate manual tools and power tools. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and taste or smell. This employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (with assistance if necessary.) Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color differentiation and peripheral vision.
