General Description of Duties:

Camp Counselors work approximately 15 to 30 hours per week under the direction of the Camp Director and assist campers in games, activities, sports and special events and any other activity during the camper’s day. They are responsible for each camper in their group and ensure the safety of the children throughout the day. Counselors also participate alongside campers, engaging them in a fun, enthusiastic manner.

Supervision:

• Received direct supervision from Camp Director and Playground Supervisor
• Supervises and engages campers throughout the day in a fun and enriching way

Examples of Duties

Duties:

• Assists Director and Camp Supervisors in planning and implementation of camp activities
• Take attendance of campers assigned each day and reports absentees to leader
• Interpret safety and camp policy to campers
• Lead and/or assist/participate with daily activities, games and field trips
• Responsible for care, safety, welfare and discipline of campers assigned to them
• Reports disciplinary issues to playground leader
• Maintain good working relationships with campers, parents and staff
• Assist with group on field trips unless otherwise notified
• Set a positive example and encourage respect for fellow campers and counselors
• Perform duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must have the ability to be certified in CPR, first aid, and AED
• Ability to work well and communicate well with children individually and in a group
• Ability to teach and lead various activities
• Display maturity, enthusiasm, patience, sense of humor and self-control
• Must be able to maintain good working relationships with parents and staff
• Available for training periods before camp starts
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must be able to comply with all CDC, State of Connecticut, Town of Trumbull, and Parks and Recreation Covid-19 policies and procedures.
• Advanced knowledge of a variety of specific sports is a plus.

Supplemental Information

The number of available openings is dependent upon the current budget and the number of returnees from last year. Returning counselors may be given preference.
