About This Position
Futures First is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Finance team. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end close, preparing audit documentation, and managing grant and fund accounting for a mission-driven nonprofit organization.
The ideal candidate has strong experience in general ledger accounting, audit preparation, and SAGE accounting software, along with the ability to manage both transactional and higher-level accounting responsibilities.

This is a full-time position (37.5 hours/week) with an annual salary range of $60,000–$68,000.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate financial data
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, and monthly reconciliations
- Support month-end close and produce timely financial statements
- Analyze variances and prepare supporting schedules
- Prepare audit schedules, documentation, and workpapers
- Serve as a primary internal contact during external audits
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal control standards
- Maintain organized, audit-ready financial records
- Manage grant budgets, reporting, and compliance
- Track grant expenditures and communicate financial updates to Program Directors
- File grant reports with federal, state, and local agencies
- Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting processes
- Process invoices, vendor payments, and credit memos
- Reconcile AP, AR, payroll, and cash disbursement accounts
- Support billing, payment application, and AR collections
- Assist with 1099 preparation and year-end tasks
- Use SAGE accounting software for daily operations
- Develop spreadsheet reports and financial analysis tools
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes
Required Qualifications:
- Strong audit preparation or audit support experience
- Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting
- Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations)
- Strong communication, organization, and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3+ years of professional accounting experience
- Experience with SAGE accounting software
- Nonprofit accounting experience
- Experience supporting grant-funded programs
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of working at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
