About This Position

Description:

BASIC FUNCTION: The Compliance Assistant supports the compliance function of a real estate property management firm by ensuring adherence to affordable housing program requirements, including Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) and other low-income housing regulations. This role assists with tenant file compliance, certifications, reporting, and audits while working closely with property management and accounting teams. The ideal candidate has working knowledge of affordable housing rules and hands-on experience using AppFolio property management software.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Affordable Housing Compliance Support

• Assist with administration of compliance programs for LIHTC and other affordable housing properties.

• Conduct interviews with potential tenants to ensure eligibility for LIHTC & /or HOME progran1

• Support initial and annual income certifications and recertifications.

• Review tenant files for completeness and regulatory compliance.

• Verify income, assets, and eligibility documentation according to program guidelines.

• Track and monitor compliance deadlines for certifications and renewals.

• Prepare LIHTC &/or HOME Annual Owner Certification Packages for Regulatory Agencies.

• Assist clients with completing Rental Subsidy Packages for submission to Funding Agencies

File & Documentation Management

• Maintain organized and audit-ready tenant compliance files (electronic and physical).

• Ensure required forms, verifications, and supporting documentation are properly collected and stored.

• Prepare compliance checklists and file review summaries.

• Follow document retention and privacy requirements.

• Hands-on experience using AppFolio property management software required.

• Experience handling tenant certifications and compliance files preferred.

Technical Skills

• Working knowledge of LIHTC and affordable housing compliance requirements.

• Proficiency in AppFolio for tenant and compliance data management.

• Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel and Word.

• Ability to review financial and income documentation accurately.

• Experience with compliance checklists and reporting tools.

SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday 9AM-5PM

SALARY: $70,000/yr - $78,000/yr

LOCATION: New York, NY 10038

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma
  • Low Income Housing Tax Credit Compliance (TaCCS) Certification & Assisted Housing Manager (AI-IM) Certification
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Must be proficient in AppFolio software, Microsoft Word, Excel, Windows, Adobe, and Outlook.
